Thanks, I went ahead with the 11-18 a few months ago; just as the 10-24 was announced.
Now, I know I did not make a mistake by not waiting.

The bad news is that Tokina's lens, which is really excellent, will probably never be made for Alpha mount. Tokina is owned by Hoya which also owns Pentax and supplies Samsung. When they took over Pentax, most Tokina lenses of any merit were either already issued as Pentax branded versions, or later became Pentax versions. Pentax and Alpha versions under the Tokina name were ended.

I have been looking forward to your review and am very glad I waited. I don't think I'll be buying the Tamron after all. Searching around, I've come across the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 which looks very good, but is not yet(?) on the alpha mount.

Do you have an opinion about the Tokina? If you think it would be worthwhile, could I entreat you to use your influence on Sony and/or Tokina to see if an alpha mount version could be produced in the fairly near future?

Maybe Sony should redesign it lens to 11-24mm and f/2.8 with new optical elements...
