Re: A6000 review on DPR

I am also generally happy with my Nex 7 which is a delight in the hand. However areas where I felt improvements were needed were the autofocus (pictures of children and motoring events) and the menu system which I found irritating. I decided to go for the A6000 and have to say that I am delighted w...

Re: A6000 review on DPR

Was rather pleased to see that according to DPR's comparison that high ISO noise and RAW performance is not quite as good as the NEX 7. Not only that isn't true, but if it were true, why should that make you happy? I doubt it's true as well. I can think of other reasons to prefer a Nex-7, though. A...

A6000 review on DPR

Was rather pleased to see that according to DPR's comparison that high ISO noise and RAW performance is not quite as good as the NEX 7. Small margins maybe, or pseudo science, but I'm very happy with the images my NEX 7 produces and the interface is well learnt now :D

Re: Sony A5000 + 16-50mm E mount lens

I've just got one of these to add to my NEX7 and 5n system to give me WiFi. Used for long pole photography with my iPhone 5 as controller and viewfinder using the free Sony app which gives good camera control including focus point and remote operation of the 16-50mm power zoom. The difference betwee...

Re: Cherry blossoms in D.C.

Nice detailed shots, I like the 16-50mm also, after RAW correction in Lightroom the results at the wide to mid end are very acceptable, the long end lacking a little as with most zooms

Re: Rokinon, five new E-mount cine lenses

http://www.adorama.com/searchsite/defau ... okinon+nex The Cine lenses are quite big and heavy, and have a stop-less iris that control the aperture. I'm not sure this are really appropriated for still photography. I'm not specially interested on this lenses (I would like to see a 85 to 100 mm AF Ma...

Re: New NEX-7 successor in two months?

I'm very glad I kept the faith with my A900, although I never was really won over by the translucent mirror idea, I don't mind EVF as in my NEX-7 but would sooner have conventional mirror and optical finder or no mirror and EVF as in NEX.

Rokinon, five new E-mount cine lenses

These seem to be shipping in the US, but no news of Samyang versions being available soon in the UK. I hope the 85mm 1.5 version proves to be as good as previous Samyang offerings. This would answer my quest for a native e-mount lens (and I'm not worried about it being manual or being designed for c...

Re: Sony 16-50 pancake lens on Nex-7?

The firmware update has improved the response of the SEL1650. I like this lens, here is a shot at 16mm. I use RAW always and although screen views and the preview in the file are corrected, you still need to correct the RAW file, although that it very easy with the profile supplied in the latest ver...

Oh dear, sounds as if Kafka has scripted the plot, best of luck getting it resolved.

NEX firmware update

Updated my NEX7 and 5n to the latest version last night. The SEL1650 retracts instantly on power off now. I was wondering what the 'as well as a number of other improvements and bugs fixes' were. From the list for the NEX7 most of those were implemented in firmware version 1.01, so have further impr...

Re: Sony 16-50 pancake lens on Nex-7?

A firmware update for this combination has just been announced. http://www.dpreview.com/news/2013/01/29/Sony-to-release-firmware-updates-for-Amount-and-Emount-systems I expect it will address the slow retraction as well as distortion issues. Yes thanks I spotted this also, released 4th of February....

Re: SIGMA 60mm F2.8 DN

From a NEX perspective I don't find 60mm very exciting... As a 90mm eqv FOV it does get you close to that classic 85mm portrait focal length. I have a Tamron 60/2 1:1 Macro in A-mount that doubles as a nice portrait lens, if they made that in E-mount I'd be quite tempted. The reason I said that is ...

Re: SIGMA 60mm F2.8 DN

My reaction also. The existing 19mm is good, the 30mm excellent, so it seems that apart from a redesign and no added OSS not much new is being offered, so no compelling reason to replace my existing Sigma 19 and 30mm lenses. From a NEX perspective I don't find 60mm very exciting, and that one could ...

Re: Sony 16-50 pancake lens on Nex-7?

Having now tried this out my only real criticism is that it is not really 16mm at the wide end by the time distortions are corrected, more like 18mm. I still believe primes are the best route to ultimate quality, but for a discrete compact walk round zoom which cost me just over £200.00 in a split f...
