Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

I can understand you keeping a couple 5D's and a few Minolta lenses, its almost like burning your bridges of nostalgia if you outed them, The A580 wasn't bad and probably made better use of the sensor than SLT. I now have zero Sony items. The thing with your D850s is it will give you long service th...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

Trouble with retro is many younger photographers have not lived through those days and cameras like the DF don't mean much to them, all being brought up on the currant DSLR shape. I heard one young photographer say he did not like of look of the Fuji cameras preferring his Canon DSLR. I guess the ol...

Re: 20 years ago: Minolta D7i

I have only just seen these pics, they are superb, with those lovely Minolta colours, and just 5.1mp, who needs 24 mp

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

Did you ever like the A580, last of the OVF, its probably the last of the Minolta legacy. Apparently people are looking for them, My first Sony DSLR was an A550, quite a nice camera, I wish now I had kept it instead of moving to SLT. Did Sony use Minolta staff as design consultants. Canon have the b...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

There is so much more going for a DSLR, that I think some photographers have been swept up in the mirrorless hype and have forgotten what great cameras DSLR's are to use. Canikon made DSLR's for every pocket and skill levels and they have to be applauded for that. I'm looking at the prosumer models ...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

The industry has been occasionally plagued with Fake News, much of it directed towards the user. Olympus went through a bout of fake news re M/4/3 a few years ago. As I have mentioned recently I no longer own a Sony camera and my intention was to return to a DSLR with OVF, I have been looking at the...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

Just a short post to Barry, the Nikon 610 Mk 2 has caught my attention, mainly because its quite small for a FF. finding one that's not beat up or has high shutter count is the problem. I would also need FF lenses although the used market is the place to look. Apparently the Mk 2 had the new shutter...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

The 70D was the last decent build on a Canon, Plenty around on the used market. Great shot of the Runner and very Nikon colours, well done for the sale I have been looking at all the shops and sites selling used Nikon's and one thing they seem to have in common certainly in APS-C up to a D7200, ( Ab...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

There's no doubt about it Nikon make the best use of their sensor, but having said that the later 24 mp APS-C Canon DSLR's do as well. Thinking back a few years now I had the most wonderful Nikon, the D90, it was a sheer gem and although only 12-mp gave outstanding IQ picture quality, not sure who's...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

Its a funny old world, I think as I have done in the past, build a kit from the used market and with Canikon you have a huge choice, Looking at what options there are if you want to stay with cameras, DSLR's are a logical choice on many levels. I refuse to buy any thing new these days, My M5 was sec...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

I took my old Canon 650D to my local camera shop for a commission sale, they said that it won't be on the shelf for long, people are snapping up older Canon and Nikon DSLR's ( the D80 or was it the D90 was so popular Nikon kept production going well past its sell by date ). My local dealer said the ...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

The M5 seems to work very well for my type of photography, mostly landscapes, gardens, vintage car shows etc. The pictures are out standing and colourful, The 11-22 wide is a cracking lens and I feel perhaps a prime later if there is one, but I always have the EFS adapter. I can't understand Canon, ...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

I have just built up my kit for the Canon M5 with a new EFM 11-22 wide zoom on special offer from camera world, So far I have the kit 14-45 kit lens which is rather good and the wide, just need a longer lens, but not sure about the EFM 18-150, I would prefer a long prime, I could use the supplied EF...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

I was never a fan of Sony Jpegs or how they dealt with noise even at default, they gave the user no option I'm afraid the industry has made the pixel race a selling point. I agree, 24 mp is more than enough for my simple photography, The Jpegs out of my old Olympus E-510 are superb, as they are from...

Re: Back to SLR thoughts and ramblings

Being able to adjust your own noise filters even at low ISO settings levels or completely off was some thing Sony would not give us, I complained several times it seemed to be endemic in all models, Never understood their reasoning. It looks like the Nikon is doing all you ask of it and some.
