Re: Macro in the Garden
Thanks for the compliment. Your response gives me the chance to explain a little - although you probably will be bored and certainly didn't intend your words to be taken as I'm about to. Pain - most folk believe that insects don't feel pain. They have neither the nervous system nor the brain. ...

Re: Macro in the Garden
Here's an Emerald. I deliberately didn't try to get the wings in focus because I wanted to major on the water mites that are infesting its thorax (the orange blobs). You get an impression of the typical Emerald wing position though.

Re: Macro in the Garden
A-Apprentice, Sorry to butt in. Your damsel is not an Emerald. As far as I can make out it's an Azure (but the photo isn't conclusive). You can just about see a black marking on the thorax that's known as the Coenagrion Spur and is a pointer to one of the Coenagrion species. The Azure is Coenagrion ...

From the backyard over the weekend. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8119/8653962294_7eb17f9e8f_b.jpg It's a lovely rose and the lighting is perfect it would be a corker if there wasn't so much noise. I have no idea what's caused it - it's like my camera performs at ISO 64 million. :D Any ideas why? M...

Re: one for sury
Hi Sury,
I can see what you have done and agree that there's an improvement. I can also see (obviously) that your second file is in mono. Am I missing something because Mike's original two files look identical to me.
Sorry if I'm being blind or dumb!

I rather suspect that there's some other explanation. In any event I, for one, am missing her contributions.

Good morning Grand Caliph.
Am I missing something or have you posted the same image twice?

Re: Fiber aquarium macro project
Those are excellent (and very interesting) pictures. Where did you get the optical fibres please? What sort of exposure can you get using your set up? I'm really very surprised that a relatively few fibres allow what's obviously an acceptable exposure. I would have guessed that you would be struggli...

Re: Birds 2013
Mick, Thank you. I did notice the legs and tail being soft. I was not sure that was intended or not. I heard about pictorialism for the second time in as many weeks. I heard about it last week and has been reading up on it and even looked for some PS actions and techniques. The context was the land...

Re: Birds 2013
Mick, It looks fine to me. Out of curiosity, I want to know why you think this is short of desirable. I am trying to know your perspective more than anything else. With best regards, Sury Hi Sury, I've never been asked to criticize one of my own pictures in public before so this should be fun! Firs...

Not the best shot in the world but just to prove that my 'big' lens really is fixed ( see repairs and servicing thread).
