Re: Sony A6000

I have an A6000 and use a Minolta 100-300 APO zoom with it via a Sony LA-EA4. It works extremely well, giving fast auto focussing (faster than using the same on my A7R) and exif data, altho' it can't tell whether the lens is a Minolta or a Konica; I guess they are essentially the same.

Eye-AF on A7R and A6000

There is a lot of conflicting information out there about the use of Eye-AF on the A7R and other cameras. Some say it won't work unless face-recognition is selected, others deny this. I know that face recognition works only with the human face; animals don't have the right kind of face for the softw...

Re: focal length change between APC-s and FullFrame

I also read DPReview, and have often wondered why they go on so much about jpg quality out of camera - surely every serious photographer produces them in his computer, if he needs them at all. The only justification for producing them in camera that I can see is to send them off speedily by 'phone t...

Re: focal length change between APC-s and FullFrame

But it's not quite so simple..... If I mount my aps-c 18-200 lens on my A7R, for sure, the image inside the vignetting is of a wider angle view than when it is mounted on the A6000. But I would crop off the vignetting, and the image so produced is square and OF approximately THE SAME effective focal...

Re: focal length change between APC-s and FullFrame

Thank you. It is as I thought but I wasn't confident enough to assume it. Now I know.

Thanks again.

focal length change between APC-s and FullFrame

I am so confused, to use an old GoonShow phrase. When I use an APS-C lens on a fullframe camera, the actual functioning focal length increases 1 1/2x. Yes? So if I use a FF lens on an APS-C camera, does the functioning focal length reduce by the same amount? I guess I don't understand the way the le...

Re: E-mount tele zoom comparisons.

I am still playing with the Sony APC-S 18-200 zoom on my A7R. I am finding it very useful, as the quality of the images seems, to me, to be very good and as long as I avoid the dreaded 1/80 - 1/200 speed range, I see no shake. However, this morning, looking at some last chance autumn colours shots (...

Re: Why turn OSS off when using a tripod?

Thank you.
The photos in question were all tele-zoom shots, comparing different lenses. Now I will need to do them again, although the Sony 12-200, the only one with OSS, was generally the best.

Why turn OSS off when using a tripod?

I have read in several places that OSS should be turned off when using a tripod. Why?

On the few occasions I have used a tripod, I have forgotten to do this and can't see any problems with the images obtained.

E-mount tele zoom comparisons.

New to the Sony system, but impressed with results so far from my A7R, I have gone further and experimented to find the best tele-zoom I have available. I also bought the A6000, following the suggestion from David Kilpatrick that he found the tele more functional on the A6000; I needed a second body...

Sony Zeiss Sonnar T 24 mm f/1.8 on A7?

Has anybody any experience of the Sony Zeiss Sonnar T 24 mm f/1.8 on the FF A7? I know there will be some vignetting, but how much?
Thanks for responses.

Re: Samyang tilt-shift 24mm f3.5 announced

I may be being trivial, and admit that I lack experience, but with the perspective correction options availablre from DxO, isn't this an expensive option?

Re: Hello from the Welsh Borders

Thanks for the Lightzone news - I hadn't noticed.

Concerning your point on Aperture, since everything goes through DxO, and is transferred to Aperture as a big TIFF, Aperture doesn't treat it as coming from the A7R. But why would it not support the output directly? I'll see what happens tonight.

Re: Hello from the Welsh Borders

Thanks, Birma, for the suggestion. I don't like the reviews of the Sigma I see quoting flimsy build, and, as I use a big zoom rarely, I'll leave such a purchase until the last moment before our safrari, hoping something better turns up.

Hello from the Welsh Borders

Following the suggestion of a professional photographer friend, I spent too much of yesterday on this site and its parent. I will probably come here too frequently! Having realised that at 76 I can no longer carry my Nikon 300S and all its lenses for longer than a couple of hours, and needing someth...
