Re: SAL-50M28 Rattles
Well, got the lens back from its second sojourn to TX repair center. They say that they disassembled the lens and still found no fault. Funny thing is, now the barrel is tight and the rattle is gone. Most obviously was my imagination

Re: SAL-50M28 Rattles
Well, Sony has returned my lens saying that no fault was found. They also threw away all the original packaging I sent it to them in; claim to have recycled it. It still rattles, and at minimum focus, the lens barrel is still loose. I called them on it, and they insist that it is OK for the barrel t...

Re: What lenses do you use?
Well, the forum comes onto my screen with grey text on a black background ever since the appearance was changed. And I find that difficult to read with such low contrast. Sorry you felt that I wasn't worth the effort. I thought that with Sonolta gone so were snide and rude comments. Thanks awfully.

Re: SAL-50M28 Rattles
Yes sir I did. On or about the 29th of May this year. Truth be told, it's more annoying and embarassing than anything. It seems to work fine, but... It may end up on Ebay. Of course who's looking to buy a lens that rattles?

Re: Do I really need an a900?
For me, after shooting with the A700 for just a bit over 1 year, I had the opportunity to use an A900 and was immediatly enamoured of the camera. I also read David's piece debating the personal need vs want of the A900 and after agonizing for some time, I made the jump. Yes, I did need to swap out a...

SAL-50M28 Rattles
I bought a Sony 50 f2.8 macro back around the end of May and for some reason, it rattles. When focusing close up, the lens barrel actually moves about within the outer shell. This oddly enough doesn't seem to interfere with the functioning of the lens. I sent it back to Sony's Laredo, TX facility fo...

Re: The Sony "high ISO" thing.
May just be me, but back in the day when we all were using our Minolta or other 35mm kit, what film speed was most frequently inside? I cannot remember going over 400 other than BW with any frequency. If I had a $ for every roll of 100 or slower I shot I'm certain I could throw us all one tremendous...

Battery Cautionary
Honestly, since having a nearly disasterous fire while attempting to charge a Chinese 'equivalent' battery for a Sony point and shoot camera, if it isn't the real deal, I refuse to even consider it. I've never tried any subs for the F828 or A900. I was very lucky, as I was at home when it lit off. D...

Re: I took the plunge
Amazingly I've done the same thing. A700 w 16/80CZ to daughter; A900 w 24/70CZ to me. The siren song of the FF drew me in at last . I guess I'm still a 35mm shooter at heart. *sigh*

Re: Minolta 300m F or Sony 70-300m ssm g
I just received my 70>300G from Sony a few days ago, and I find it to be everything David suggested and more. Its first outing was to a water polo tourney last evening and I was ever so happy with the results. Even once the sun faded a bit and the lights came on. For me it was an upgrade from the 75...

I also use the 100M28 and have had no complaints with the resolution this lens provides, even wide open. Other than available light, I've used the HV-RLAM with it as well.

Re: RAW + JPEG on Alpha 100
For what it's worth, I am just learning to work with RAW images, and also am shooting RAW+JPEG on my a700. I simply used Windows Explorer to transfer the entire folder from the CF in the camera to my hard drive. (Cut > paste.) Seems to work for me; of course you must understand that I generally only...

Re: Sony HVL-RLAM
Hello David, Sorry I left out the details. The subject was a vehicle-specific machined aluminum bellcrank segment from an all-wheel steering system actuator. I used the 100M28 varying from about 1.5' to 2.25' away at 3.5 to 5.6, ISO 400, 1/40 (on a tripod) with the light on Full setting. I do mean t...

Sony HVL-RLAM
Hello all, I got into a situation recently where I needed some cool (temperature) illumination for a macro series at work and picked up the Sony Ring Light. At first I was not sure if I was going to be satisfied with the light vs flash design, but quickly came to see why it was built as a light. In ...
