A700 af-speeds

Hi folks,

Can anybody tell why there are two selectable af-speeds on the A700?
Is the faster less accurate and vice versa? Does the lower speed save the af-mechanism in the lens?
This is only my guessings, Can anybody tell for sure?

Do You shoot RAW och Jpeg? I think mine acted similar when I went over to shot RAW only.

I´ve heard about a guy having problems with both his minolta 50/1,7 and Tamron 17-50/2,8. After repair in Hungary the camera became fine. I´ve also read (on Dyxum) about at least 2 guys having bf with the Sony 70-200/2,8. If I focus at about 5m with my 50/1,7 the actual focuspoint is at about 7m. Bu...
