Re: lens Choice
I went to Machu Picchu a couple of years ago with an a57 and an CZ16-80 and Sony 18-250. No regrets on those lenses. My only regret is not spending more time in the ruins in the afternoon. Everyone heads up in the morning, so you get a lot of crowds in your shots. Starting after noon, people hit the...

Re: Anyone been to Peru lately?
Thanks Pako. I think I'll go with the a57 and a few extra lenses. I'll leave the NEX at home, and hopefully I won't drop the a57 during a hike. It's very odd, because the Peruvian customs declaration form (at least the version published online) seems to limit travelers to one digital camera and two ...

Anyone been to Peru lately?
I just learned that Peru charges a hefty fee if you try to bring more than one digital camera into the country. I was planning to bring an a57 and an NEX-5N on an upcoming hike in Peru, but I guess I'll have to leave one at home. I just read an old post on another forum that suggested that Peru also...

Re: Printer recommendation needed
Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm going to try to calibrate my monitor, and then I'll see if I can live with the output of the print shops. Peter, thanks for the info. I'd planned to use a home printer to correct the color in my pictures, then to send the pictures on to the print shops for larg...

Re: Printer recommendation needed
My screen is definitely not calibrated. At least, I've done nothing to calibrate it since I got the computer. My prints come out yellower (and usually somewhat darker) than what shows on my screen. Is there some easy way to calibrate a screen on a Mac laptop? Does it require special software? My non...

Printer recommendation needed
I'm looking to buy a photo printer. Although I use outside printing services from time to time, I often find that the printed pictures look different from (and usually worse than) what's on my screen. I'm hoping that with a home printer, I can eventually get the colors and overall brightness right t...

Re: SLT A57 question
Never mind, I just figured it out. You change aperture in M mode by pressing the AEL button and rotating the front control dial.

SLT A57 question
I have a new A57, and I'm trying to get the hang of the controls. One issue is that I can't figure out how to change aperture in manual exposure mode. Gary Friedman's book says to hold the exposure compensation button and move the front control dial to change aperture. But when I press the exposure ...

Lightroom 4.1 question
I have a folder full of .dng and .jpeg picture files from a recent trip to France. I just finished editing a bunch of them in Lightroom when I noticed that all of the pictures in the ribbon on the bottom of the screen had ".jpg" extensions. I think I may have just wasted a lot of time edit...

Re: CZ 16-80 S/H opinions and advice OR Tamron 17-50 f2.8
Those are great pictures. I also got a CZ 16-80 recently, and I love it. I will say I'm surprised you're getting such great looking results from DxO. For me, it does a great job sharpening, etc, but the greens consistently come out more on the yellowish side than when I convert the same picture in E...

Re: a55 doesn't recognize Tamron 17-50
Slightly off-topic, but where do you find the LR lens correction profiles? When I go to lens correction/profile/ custom, and select the a-700, it shows only four lenses: the 18-200, the 50 f1.4, the 16 f2/8. and the sony 18-55. I gather from the above thread that there are other profiles available i...

Re: 6mp CCD v 10mp CCD high ISO
My a100 consistently underexposed in low light -- sometimes by as much as a full stop. And by low light, I mean not only indoors, but outdoors on a cloudy day. I always wondered why Sony hadn't done a better job with the metering. My wife often got better exposures using a small Canon point and shoo...

Re: Lens Filter/Autofocus question
I don't think I was using a lens hood, but it was overcast and I don't see any flare in the shots. Maybe I have a back focusing issue with this lens. I think I'm just going to have to experiment more with this camera/lens combo and see if I can replicate the focusing problem to see what is causing i...
