Re: Mystery Lens

Yes, thanks, it does look like lenses very like this one were used in early video cameras.

Mystery Lens

My father-in-law purchased a lens for £1 as a curiosity and came along to ask what it was. The lens is a manual zoom and seems to have two secondary lenses mounted above what I presume are photo-cells or something similar. Attached are a couple of images. Re: mic suggestions

Have a look at the Rode videomic range. Also Rycote suspensions and wind suppression, as you are in the USA I have no idea what suppliers you could call for advice, B&H come up a lot in searches.

Or you could get Light and Lighting by David Kilpatrick, Focal Press, 1985 new from an Amazon seller for
£4,099.84 + postage.

I have one on my bookshelf behind me which I probably purchased not long after publication.

Re: Need help with flash basics

If you know the power of your flash (expressed as a guide number), the ISO of the film/sensor and the flash to subject distance then you can calculate an aperture to use.

You can find one explanation here.

Re: Pro Camera Shop UK ?

Terms and conditions Force majeure ProCameraShop accepts no liability for any failure to deliver, delay, damage or defect to goods caused by any event or circumstance beyond its reasonable control. So the courier drops your camera and what happens? You have a battle against the unenforceable T&Cs?

Re: Oh God, they killed Flickr!

I suppose for me it still works, I'm mainly putting up photos of local community events and now it is even better because there is no image limit (at least not the 200 limit). I had no intention of paying for something I had little control over so have the free account but I was over the 200 limit t...

Re: Canon G15: Some thoughts on my new camera

I found that I was mistaken, it was the G9 profile that I downloaded. For G15 the LR 4.3 release introduced support but the lens is not mentioned on the list of supported lenses.
It would be nice to see more detail/evidence for the suggestion that the profile includes lens correction data.

Re: Canon G15: Some thoughts on my new camera

I was disappointed to discover that even though Adobe claimed that 4.3 had support for the G15 that when I loaded them and started working with the G15 raw files that although the raw files were handled there was no G15 lens profile. I will have to check at home but I think you have to search for i...

I suppose the warning signs were here last year. It seems to me it is against my interest to have to register works I want to protect from exploitation. And the Berne convention should in theory stop unilateral changes to copyright legislation... Berne Convention for the protection of literary and a...

Re: Canon G15: Some thoughts on my new camera

I replaced my G9 with a G15 last year. For me the image quality, size, propoer controls (not menus), flash, flash shoe and OVF add up to an ideal take-anywhere camera. And you can even stick a polarizer on the front with a filter adaptor... With smaller cameras you loose things, particularly the con...
