Re: Does everyone want large bodied, full frame bodies?

We're going to see the EVF taking over, I guarantee it. Think of how both amateurs and pro video shooters rely now on EVF or flip out or external monitors for their shooting. It's only a matter of time as they improve, eliminate ghosting, increase resolution and handle low light. For my part, I like...

Re: What lens to buy next?

I'd recommend the Tamron 17-50 if you don't use primes much for low light (as a hobbyist). If you want a more generally useful lens, my favourite is the CZ16-80 which is quite fast, sharp all over, great contrast and colour and a nice range, and you could combine it with a faster prime. I personally...

Re: Your dream Lens?

I can tell you exactly what I would like to see - a 70-210mm f/4 SSM/SAM, a 24-120mm f/4, and a 12-24mm f/4. David It's exactly these lenses that almost made me get a Canon 5D MkII. (well, the 24-105 and 70-200 f4's) I sold and then re-bought at 28-135 to fill the gap. Haven't given it a flare test...

Re: Minolta 100mm f/2

I waited for FF because APS-C was going to give me awkward magnified lens lengths. If an A900 comes your way then you also have the 135mm/f2.8 which I like and have used for walkaround candids at weddings. I like the bride portrait. Harvey Thanks. I have actually had my 135/2.8 up for sale because ...

Re: Minolta 100mm f/2

I have a 100/f2. All of my other lenses I either got at a super good price or a good price. The 100/f2 I paid a premium for, and it has been amazing on my a700. Sorry, I cannot compare it to an 85mm as I don't have one. And I wish I could show it on an a900 but nobody has given me one yet. Do you n...

Re: Is the MEGA Pixel race over for now?

Yes. It's now called the high-ISO noise war.

The next BIG thing needed is faster phase-detect AF. All the 'rangefinder' style cameras need it sorely. This will also transform the optical viewfinder discussion; sorry but it will.

Re: Sony 16-80 CZ

I bought a one-year-old model in the spring and apart from zoom creep it has been very solid, physically speaking. Optically it is excellent and very satisfying to use next to some of my Minolta primes. I couldn't say this about the 16-105, Sig 17-70, or even Tamron 17-50 although it was pretty dece...

Does DXO solve all???

RAW conversion technical neophyte here (and an a850 "leaner" towards upgrading from my a700).... I'm using Photoshop CS4 and Camera Raw for conversion with my a700, and have never used DXO. So a couple of questions... 1. Should I be using DXO instead? 2. If I'm shooting RAW and converting ...

Re: Ultra-wide lenses

I've been frustrated by the limited options in APSC ultra-wide. I tried a Sigma 10-20 for a while and it was no match for my Minolta glass. But there aren't many options, so I guess I'd recommend it. I captured some quite nice interior shots with it. I wish Tokina would make the effort to produce th...

Re: My second lens - what to buy?

What do you have already? An 18-70mm? What is causing you most issues at the moment? You don't have a long enough lens to zoom in on detail (note that you can crop images) You can't get far enough away from a buliding or scene to get it all in This should help you decide what to do. Harvey Agreed. ...

Re: Should I still invest in a macro lens?

I haven't used extension tubes, but would like to try some time. But I can say that the Minolta 50/2.8 RS Macro that I got this spring has become a favourite. It is very easy to walk around with and hand-hold, and it has rendered my 50/1.7 obsolete. I think it's probably a simple and more versatile ...

Let me re-phrase that: Do I really need an a850?

Same question, lower price!

(And I think I know your answers.)

Just what might the 35/2, 50/2.8 M, 100/2 and 200/2.8 look like on a FF Sony... twitch, tremble, salivate.
