Re: Alpha 700 in "studio"

I suppose it could be anything. I used 110 because it was the cheapest I could find for the uninterupted area I got from it, and is thick enough for me to cut IR filters for other applications as well. Besides using it on my A700 built in flash, I also use it as a lens filter for my F828, as well as...

Re: Sony working with Canon...

They are in competition, that is true, but it hasn't stopped them from all using the same Adobe Flash, JAVA (well I don't know if they I-Phone can use JAVA). It also hasn't stopped them from using the same CMOS camera modules, the same processors, and offering the same features even if they are impl...

Re: Alpha 700 in "studio"

Yes, sorry. I thought I had typed it in as 110 slide film, sorry. I did use the term "negative" didn't I? Ah well, I am glad you knew what I meant!

Re: Sony working with Canon...

Dylan, your phone is overclocked ? Wonder if I can do this to my Nokia 5110, too ... -- Olaf Yes, and apparently it is really easy to do with Windows Mobile devices. I don't know because I did not write the program that allowed me to do it, but there are some amazing things being ...

Re: Alpha 700 in "studio"

Yes there is a possibility for the last pulse of the on-camera control flash to affect the exposure slightly or cast a shadow. The cheapest way to fix that is to go buy a cheap roll of 110 film, and then without exposing it, have it developed. With the blank negative film in hand now, cut one or two...

Re: Sony working with Canon...

Because of the inclusion of Nokia, but the lack of any other "camera" company like Nikon, Oly, Pentax, etc. my guess would be for something to do with mobile technology and imaging. As other have pointed out, the majority of smart phones are powered by Windows mobile and those devices are ...

Re: Help! My first paid wedding gig!

It's slightly off topic, I know, but I felt I must chime in. On the subject of what to charge, while I get where you are coming from, personal experience tells me you might just be setting yourself up for trouble. Granted I have never shot weddings for pay, but my whole life has been contract based ...

Re: New camera announcement Aug 14

Thank you Greg, but no, I have never used any of the scene modes on the A700. Bother were shot as cRAW+JPG, in the case of the first one, I think I was in P mode, in the second I was in A, for the JPG bother were set to clear, +1 sharpening, 0's on the other parameters, DRO+2 in the first, +3 in the...

Re: Storage.

Sonolta, looks like you have had a lucky run with no DVD failures. I was reading an interesting article a couple months ago that said that optical media isn't as time proof as once thought. A number of old CD's failing has told me there might be some truth to it (and no the CD's had no scratching wh...

Re: New camera announcement Aug 14

I have never "dropped" a camera before either, but mine seem to like to get attracted to ther moving objects in the vicinity. In the case of the A700 and the cracked tile, unbeknownst to me the strap got knocked off the table the camera was on inside a restaurant, and a lady passing by was...

Re: New camera announcement Aug 14

Thank you, I am glad some appreciated my own experience, though I would never profess to be much of an expert in anything. At most, more of a careful observer. Greg, my line there seems to be more and more true with each passing generation as things get pulled from the ever less expensive bottom end...

Re: New camera announcement Aug 14

Ok, off topic I know, sorry. Why can't I get the Quote function to work. I have edited the above post three times no looking for some sort of break or mistake, and yet it still does not work. I have pulled apart the code on all other posts in this thread and I have everything exactly the same. Oh, a...

Re: New camera announcement Aug 14

... And that includes bad weather. I'm envious ever since you posted those pictures (wasn't it on dPreview?) showing an Olympus 4/3rds and a Nikon D300, both dripping wet. There's no way my Minolta/Sony gear would survive this kind of treatment. There is, and it does. I have used my A700 in and aro...

Re: SIGMA 28-105mm 1:2.8-4 Lens

wow thats good to hear. I'm a little surprised though I thought the cameras would default to TTL automatically if a lens without a distance encoder was attached. maybe that info is wrong. According to the A700 manual, no, it won't automatically switch. It only reverts to TTL automatically when you ...

Re: CF card vs Memory Stick

Regarding speed, David is right that you will definitely see a lag with the Pro-Duo's. I have one in my A700 (2gig) as a backup in cases where I might not want to swap out a full card (in rain, waterfall or sea spray, blowing sands, monsoons) but want to keep shooting. My test bursts were much slowe...
