Re: Sony Lens Quality-
If that's the case, why did they produce the 70-400mm G lens? It's possible that Sony is going to split their DSLR efforts. A separately marketed Pro line as they do in video. And that will probably be just FF unless the a7xx turns out to be far more advanced than it looks like now. If so they'd pr...

Re: Sony Lens Quality-
I wonder if Sony have decided not to compete in the Serious Amateur or semipro end of the market? Let's hope that they do not end up like Pentax. If that's the case, why did they produce the 70-400mm G lens? Alas, one new release does not make a pro system. I'd like to see some updated high speed p...

Re: Sony Lens Quality-
This is a QC problem, David, any make can suffer from it, don't you think? BTW, are you talking about the new f4 VR WA zoom? Well, I have just been sent a CD of Nikon 16-35mm pix from a D700 owner who is deeply unhappy - failing Alamy quality control, has sold two excellent Nikon lenses to fund the ...

Re: Sony Lens Quality-
I'm not sure about where you are coming from with your query. But I would suggest that you go to Thom Hogans website to read his latest posting about blaming the equipment and then re-read the reviews in full not just cherry picking some bits. Have you actually read any of reviews from the links I ...

Re: Old Minolta zooms on FF digital
Thanks for the reply. I do not have a 500mm reflex lens, but I do have the old Novoflex 400 and 600 mm follow focus lenses. Must check to see if a Maxxum mount is available. I have sold the 500 8 when I tried it a few moment on my A900 the first time. The lens was good on the A700. But on the A900 ....

Re: Old Minolta zooms on FF digital
Thanks for the reply. So it seems the the 28-135 will do tolerably well.
Yagil wrote:Used the 28-135 and the 500/8 on the A900. Picture very sharp with the 28-135 and reasonably sharp with the 500/8.

Re: Old Minolta zooms on FF digital
Thanks for the reply Wes. No doubt prime lenses are best, but it is unlikely that my budget will stretch to an A850 and an expensive Minolta prime or CZ lens. Once the A850 is available, I may just take my zooms and a memory card to the local dealer and run off a few frames to see how these old lens...

Old Minolta zooms on FF digital
Have any forum members used either the 28-135 or the 24-85 zoom lenses on the Sony A900? If so, how sharp were the results? I am thinking getting an A850 and own of own both of these zooms. It would be good to know if these old zooms will give truly first-class results with the A850's sensor. Thanks...

Re: CZ 16-35 reviewed on PopPhoto
Re-reading the review it would appear that quality-wise the lens is aimed at the Canon 16-35 Mark II and similar optics. David, now that a review of the lens has been printed, would you mind summarising for us your impressions based on the sample you tested? One more question - yes, I know it is lik...

CZ 16-35 reviewed on PopPhoto
Just in case you were not aware of it, the July issue of Popular Photography has a review of the new CZ 16-35 zoom. It tests well, but does not seem to be a truly outstanding lens, not in the the Nikon 14-24 class, even at the shorter end of its focal length range. As the other CZ lenses in the Alph...

Re: Sony + Zeiss cooperation confirmed for 5 more years
In a word: Optics. The Nikon system offers an extensive range of quality optics. Nikon and CZ. Sony is introducing new lenses, but they appear not to be interested in releasing fast primes or specialized lenses, such as T/S or fast long teles. Not sure what the fuss is all about. There have been no ...

Re: Sony + Zeiss cooperation confirmed for 5 more years
Not sure what the fuss is all about. There have been no new CZ lenses for quite a while. It would be nice if CZ /Sony offered some fast WA primes. AF versions of the 21/2.8, 25/1.4, 28/2.0. 35/1.4 Distagons would be great to have. Will CZ ever be allowed to offer a full range of lenses , given Sony'...

Re: Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S G review
Thanks for this report. One more question: How is the focus shift on the Sigma when stopping down to middle apertures f4-f5.6? How much does it affect overall sharpness? Yes. At full aperture, f1.4, it is no way as good. The Sigma is sharper and has less aberration round the edges of the frame, thou...
