Re: Camera Repair Workshop - UK ex-Minolta team

I emailed km support to be told that they do not handle Sony repairs.

Re: Camera Repair Workshop - UK ex-Minolta team

Do they handle lens repairs?
I have acquired, don't know how, a tiny speck of dust under the front element of my 16-80 Zeiss. Whilst it doesn't seem to create a problem in the images it will prove off-putting if I seek to sell the lens.

Beercan, Soft?

I have recently acquired a beercan. On initial use I have been disappointed with the results from it on the a700. The lens does not seem to be particularly sharp at max zoom and has a poor performance when used in low, early morning sunlight. In the latter case the sun was at 45 degrees frontal and ...

Re: First impressions of A700

I would be interested in your views on the effectiveness of the in camers DRO as opposed to using a third party HDR software from a Raw image.

Re: What lenses do you use?

I am new to the Sony range having given up on rangefinder film and joined the digital age, then played with some other marques. I wonder why folk need all these different lenses which are listed here and how many of them are frequently used. I guess my philosophy is based on me being a Yorkshireman ...

Re: 550 v 700

I'm a bit puzzled. If you do a lot of walking the implication is for landscape images, so why need 5fps?
Not a criticism, just curious.

Re: Sony 16-80 CZ

My lens was bought about the same time in November 2008 and I have a love/hate relationship with it. It is very good in performance, nice and sharp with good contrast BUT it is the most annoying lens I have ever bought. When held even slightly less than horizontal it creeps out to maximum zoom lengt...

Re: Tripods

I have a good quality carbon fibre tripod and a carbon fibre monopod. I use the former more often than the latter. On the tripod I also use a pistol-grip style of head which I find quick and easy to use. I tend to use the tripod for landscapes, long exposure pictures and, if I'm, honest, the monopod...

Re: Tripod!! (2pics added)

When buying a tripod it is essential to see and try a good selection. Most dealers don't carry a big range, especially of heads. You need to handle the way the legs extend because some are very awkward to operate quickly and, especially with cold hands! Carbon fibre is lighter than conventional mate...

Tripods

I am not sure that this is the correct section but there doesn't seem to one specifically for general equipment discussion so here goes  I have a love hate relationship with tripods. I almost have a complex about them feeling that I SHOULD use one all the time but also feeling SO restricted wh...

Bonneville - just re-read your invite to NNPS. Thanks but no. I was a member for many years and am a past-president, but have grown out of it. I do hear regular reports of the society having friends who remain members, but not for me nowadays. Many thanks nonetheless.

"Not that this is directly relevant to the original topic!"

But, Wes, don't all good conversations move about and develop?

Re: Replacement A700 ... this year or forget it?

Ah well! We don't have to use it even if it is there. Its like Sat-Nav - never use it and have no need for it. I drove 50,000 miles a year for 45 years and know my way around much of the UK and LIKE paper maps. Same with cameras, in the old days we never missed features which the cameras didn't poss...

Re: A850 your advice would be appreciated

I think there is a myth about print size and sensor size which sensible practice shows not to be the case. You do not need to have a very large sensor size to produce A3 prints and I can prove this from some of the prints I have made from my wife's 5 MP Canon Ixus which cannot be faulted on quality ...
