Re: It's still about the image

Alfonso, is that a photo of some sort of festival? Well, yes, sort of, but not exactly: It’s an Easter parade (or procession), more a (usually very solemn) religious ceremony or celebration than a festival (although I know the boundaries can get sometimes a little, or even quite, fuzzy). They are t...

Re: Just one image...

Once I read someone saying (I don’t remember who) that the three most important elements of a good photo were light, light and… light. And you have caught there an ephemeral moment of awesome light. Beautiful example of landscape photography. Thanks for sharing.

James, mixed light is always tricky… and interesting. You have got beautiful images in those difficult lighting conditions! Thanks for the link.

Re: It's still about the image

Yildiz, as Pako’s link suggests, Aragosa is not abandoned. Most Castilian villages (villages from a large region in the centre of Spain) suffered some years ago a massive exodus to the big cities. The ruins you see are eloquent witnesses of that urban exodus. Many of them were in fact completely aba...

Re: It's still about the image

Thanks, Birma, for your words and your pictures (this one and all your beautiful 2008 Scottish landscapes). I still love and use my A100 (although only for good light or tripod scenes, the A700 being so much better in other situations).
And thanks, and happy new year to you all!

Paul, beautiful images, as usual. Let me contribute to this thread of yours with an A100 image as an homage to your landcape photography, which I admire. This may be my last day or two in the forum for a while as it's my New Year's resolution to get rich or famous this year Don, I wish you the best luck with your projects. Re: Panorama with MS ICE

Most of my Panos have been hand held. Does one needs to use tripod? If one were to use tripod, does one needs any additional/special contraption? Sury: As Barry says, for some panoramas a tripod is not necessary, but it is always recommended and… sometimes unavoidable. With good light conditions an...

Re: Hi there from Holland

John: A warm welcome from me! (I am your age, have also a son –but, unfortunately, no daughter in Australia…– and use a Sony A700, so we have a few things in common!) I hope somebody here will be able to help you on your issues with the A700. Best regards,

Re: Civility

Sonolta’s rhetoric is brutal and agonistic, a sort of rhetoric typical of ancient oral societies which sounds totally incompatible with today standards of written communication (especially between strangers). So Matthew C., Yildiz and others: I quite understand you! At the same time, Don is one of t...

Isn't that accomplished by A mode where Camera is making sure the same amount of light is incident on the sensor? (...) could you please elaborare what you meant by manual exposure. Please understand I am trying to learn, that's why I am asking so many questions. Sury, with (I hope) Peter’s permiss...

Re: Panorama with MS ICE

Sury, as you probably know, there is an element of risk in shooting panoramas in Aperture priority (or any other automatic exposure mode) as different frames could easily get different exposures. (For the same reason, manual WB is also advisable.) But your panorama is very evenly illuminated and so ...

Kysham, wonderful second shot. First class light and composition (sun reflection included!). Congratulations. Alfonso P.S.: According to the EXIF data, both (colour) pictures were taken at the same focal length (11mm). As usual with ultra wide-angles, a slight change in the point of view has brought...

Re: Hitler rants about the D3x

Barry, Don, Peter, Henry: After reading your posts I feel I should make it clear that basically I agree with you: The sketch is obviously intended as a joke, it is well made (I am no expert in film making, but it made me smile more than once) and, of course, I don’t think it’s offensive at all… But ...
