Calpon, this shot is superb with all those detail. How could you say this lens is barely usable wide open? Is this a cropped image?calpon wrote: Here is one from the 5D:

Re: 70300G First play
I've just gone through these 5 pages of post regarding this lens. I agree with Sonolta that my Sigma APO 70-300mm can do better at f8 compares to the OP's assumed defective 70-300G. I'm expecting a lens at this price shall at least matches the picture quality of Sigma APO 70-300mm (f8) at wide opene...

My Sigma APO 70-300mm doesn't have this effect. I though the design between these two was similar?Dr. Harout wrote:The SAL75300 (75-300) has the same effect. Hope hat 70-300 G or 70-400 G are not likewise.

I guess nice or not nice is a very subjective term. But basically I find this bokeh pattern distracting. It has a "mirror bokeh" look.

Re: Minolta AF 100-400 F4.5-6.7 APO
Thanks Doc. I was thinking about seeing more bird shots... I do notice that the bokeh looks a little bit weird especially on this shot: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2397/2225883996_0db0744486_o.jpg If a new Tamron 200-500mm can be bought at USD840, would it be a better choice than this lens? Thanks.

Re: Which zoom lens for a new APS-C user?
I think it really depends on how deep one wallet is. The 18-70 kit was one of the choices I voted. Although I'm quite disappointed with its PF, but it's a fine lens for night landscape and fireworks. http://lh3.ggpht.com/kelvinyamcs/SLGPMgUPTOI/AAAAAAAADVk/qPweIQuumpw/s800/DSC00639e%20web.jpg ISO: 1...

Minolta AF 100-400 F4.5-6.7 APO
Any comment on this lens? Appreciate if some photos can be shared. Is USD680 a fair price for a second hand unit?

Re: A900 DPR Preview.
My only complaint is that Sony either isn't listening or refuses to make dual storage formats as useful as it could be. Why can we not write to both cards at once? I thought that complaint was clearly logged with Sony when the a700 came out. Yeap. It would be cool (when shooting RAW + Jpeg) to have...

Re: A900 DPR Preview.
I stopped using my CF cards and went all memory stick. they work fine and there a lot smaller. we used CF in other devices at work and there were a lot of failures. the last ones we bought were 128mb so it shows how long since they've been used. I just don't like pins as contact on devices in 2008....

Re: Zoo
Hi Jonathan, among the series, I like the parrot the most. It has some nice detail and the colorful feather really stand out from the dark back ground. I too like to shoot in zoo, as those animals were less shy and always allow me to go near. A 70-300mm zoom lens can always produce a nice frame with...

Re: French Alps Medieval Village
I like the first shot. Beautiful. Further improvement will be cropping off the river at bottom, about an inch so that it doesn't distract the viewer from the beautiful architecture. Blue sky is always an added bonus to an image.

Actually I'm using the Sigma APO 70-300mm now and I'm so happy with the glass quality. Even with the hole opened wide, there's hardly any PF at medium contrast area. And it's only USD220 gray. But...... sigh

Re: Hello from Malaysia
Javelin, I do think otherwise. This looks like a wear and tear situation. Both my A200 and A300 has the lens focus set to infinity every time the camera is switched on, even I have the focus switched to manual. So this creates an impact to gear stopper. On a day out shooting, I tends to switch my ca...
