Re: Future of A mount

Well the A99II came out end of 2016, but the last crop body as you say was 2015 with the A68 A77II is now over 5 years since it was released. Not that shocked the length of time has grown - then again with all 3 bodies sharing the same basic design, can't be that costly to update these bodies. I thi...

Re: Future of A mount

There are plenty of adapters around, just they are simple ones, use the ring to adjust aperture and manual focus. The LEA3 works with in lens AF motors, but evidently not well on older bodies (ie slow). The LEA4 is the SLT using the A57 AF system - which for the A57 was alright in it's day - for FF ...

Re: Future of A mount

I would have liked Minolta to continue, sadly Konica seem to be the ones who pulled the plug for reasons unknown. That was during a time of high growth, not the decline we see today. Minolta was always a solid no. 3 behind Nikon and Canon, well ahead of Pentax; Olympus were never in the running, lar...

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

Well the update is a bit of a disaster, if anything it's slower to load individual files than before! Start up is faster, but this is so far off usable on Windows, it's a bit sad. UI is quite good it just needs to load files in a second or two, not 7-10 seconds before you can even do anything. Evide...

Re: Future of A mount

Hard to say what's going on, I don't think mirrorless will make the camera industry recover. It's pretty dead all round - even if E mount is doing fairly well. I've no confidence to invest in any makers right now, least of all Sony. As long as I can use my Minolta lenses is all that matters to me, a...

Re: Future of A mount

I don't know how well or not the K-1 has done, it's well priced for a FF body. Pentax were IMO way too late to enter the FF market. I think users miss the K3 type cameras, nobody seems to like the KP - a half way mish mash and it's pretty ugly! There is probably a reason why Hoya sold off the rights...

Re: Future of A mount

Only if you release products, that's not something we can do It is inevitable that if you do nothing on A mount people will over time wander off. Is it viable? If you consider the no. of lenses/gear out there it is IMO; minimal outlay to tweak existing bodies and continue is not really that costly -...

Re: Future of A mount

Just to add one thing without rambling too much ;-) The reason I liked and still do the X10 is some of the design concept of the camera. Almost all compacts have a power zoom, the X10 is mechanical - far nicer. The retro look I don't care about that much, I was never into the block style cameras of ...

Re: Future of A mount

I think we're in the era of use what you have, and don't worry about the GAS or whatever people call it. If the X10 Fuji died, I doubt I would replace it with anything. The RX Sony's are OK, but it's not really needed. I can use the phone if I have no camera on me. Not really worthwhile buying an ex...

Re: Future of A mount

X10 is working OK, so I'll run it into the ground for as long as it goes. I did have the XS1 too at one time, but it's DSLR big/heavy and honestly I prefer to use the A57 and 18-135mm, so I got rid of it. Share the same sensor, which is good I'm alright with the lens range on the X10, 28-112mm equiv...

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

DT has improved a lot in terms of processing, and results you can get. Easily up there now with others, NR is good it was poor, details also excellent. Speed is much better. Map works, can add borders/text it's got enough selective editing features to please most. I keep it around as I play with it ...

Re: Future of A mount

On colours the A100 was a bit bland to me, A200 somewhat better. I don't mind what I get from the A57/77, or the A99. I think most of the differences are AWB related. The Nikon's I used were often overly warm, Canon tend to be closer on WB. Not used Oly for some time. I personally don't buy into the...

Re: Future of A mount

I'd not hold out much hope for Pentax, Ricoh don't seem to be making any money off K mount - last few lens releases were crazy expensive/big lenses which not many users will buy into. They had some hope with the K1, fairly affordable for a FF body. They've just not got the installed user base to kee...

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

The tutorials are useful, but the issue remains with Darktable of workflow. Sure it gets a bit easier, but the no. of tweaks you have to make is counter intuitive for volume editing. It's just not set up for that kind of work. For smaller shoots it's fine, but issue remains LR is just way faster for...

Re: Future of A mount

Barry, you mentioned Pentax, I had a KR some years ago thinking it was a good move from my old Olympus E-510, No it was not the best move I have made, I'm a big fan of Jpegs although I use RAW as well and its Jpegs were awful for colour balance and over blown blues and greens, exposure was hit and ...
