Re: 3 Alphas at once

They are out there I saw plenty of A mount cameras over the years. It is unlikely to have 3 at the same time I've no doubts that A mount is still around in reasonable numbers - though due to inactivity obviously less than in years past. I saw a load of A200-350 bodies years past, so I assume the sol...

Re: A99 ramblings and thoughts...

Carrying on with my ramble... M mode with Auto ISO Very useful more so than I expected. I tend to shoot in A mode most of the time, not always but 90% then M for the times you need to control everything. The problem with A mode and auto ISO is you can't set the limit or min speed - most of the time ...

Re: Future of A mount

If I'm correct m4/3 all their bodies have IS built in I find it very useful - hugely. It's puzzling why Sony denies this to their entry/mid APS-C users only the full frame ones have it Seems like a deliberate omission to up sell to the more expensive cameras. Have to say at A6600 prices and those ne...

Re: Future of A mount

The light loss is there, though it probably hurt the older cameras more than the newer ones. Remember I had the D7000 and the A57, the Nikon is slightly better in low light (less chunky noise at high ISO), but it has no anti shake/IS. So it kinda was less of a problem due to that. I'm not sure if it...

Re: Future of A mount

Well make sure you don't watch the latest installment of Tony Northrup's "SLT's were terrible" video :-)
No it's not worth watching BTW. I'm no SLT fan, but it's stretching it to say they were awful cameras
But he does need 61mp to capture his dog for some reason

Re: Future of A mount

I thought Sony were targeting the "vlog" crowd with the flip up screen on these cameras? That's how it looks, I'm sure some do both. Whilst I make videos on YouTube, I don't need 4K or snazzy features so I can use what I have for that. I mainly use the X10 for that and for the stills shots...

Re: Future of A mount

Yes I saw that. The 16-55mm is about the size I would expect, but then the Tamron 17-50mm is also small and light and costs a mere fraction of that lens. OK no sealing or lens motor, who cares it's a sharp lens and a solid performer. The tele lens is small, but then I never saw the point of using AP...

Re: Future of A mount

I think it's just how they operate. What is odd is that the APS-C range is all the same, lacking front dials, no AF joystick (more an issue on the higher priced ones). Even more baffling; not giving the video shooters what they want (10bit 60fps 4K), doesn't bother me, but I can see how they might h...

Re: Future of A mount

I would! Seems like a good time to comment with a splattering of cameras and new lenses in the last couple of days Canon seem to be back to the old reliable - megapixels 32mp on a 1.6x crop, might not do so well in lower light The A6100 is evidently "budget entry level" at £829 pre-order. ...

Re: Future of A mount

I can believe it. Of course no need to mention the "selfie" craze too. Strange times we live in so connected with technology - yet so distant. Remember pre phone era, going round to someone to visit as a kid, having a real conversation! Don't get me wrong it's great we can communicate acro...

Re: Future of A mount

Early digital couldn't compete with film, but I had a few cheap models so that I didn't have to scan photos and load them to the web. Of course, even though the internet was becoming a thing - I used to run a dial in BBS, if anyone remembers them - it was slow, we were working with bad graphics car...

A99 ramblings and thoughts...

I thought I would post some of my experiences using the A99 - it may or may not be of interest for potential A99 buyers. As prices continue to fall it still has some appeal for bargain FF A mount users. I will add to this over time David's article on the A99 is here: http://www.photoclubalpha.com/20...

Re: Future of A mount

I had a quick look and they seem to have some OK priced shorter focal length primes on micro 4/3. Some of the zoom lenses seem oddly expensive (12-100mm F2.8 £1000+, 12-40mm F2.8 etc etc) Think it's a general trend I've seen last couple of years - very heavy price increases on lenses across the boar...

Re: Future of A mount

The reason I passed on the A37/55 bodies is the different battery they use. The 55 has GPS built in which is useful to have I'm OK with the A57 for size if I want to travel lighter; the A58 whilst it's not exactly mind blowing - is acceptable for a cheaper camera and plenty around for low prices - I...
