Re: sony vs tamron 18-250
"Mine stays on my camera of the moment most of the time. In fact right now I have the 5D with the 70-300g (SSM does the focus speed thing) and my a700 has the 18-250 both sitting on my table. If I need to rush out into my garden to shoot a butterfly or bird I grab the appropriate combo." ...

Re: sony vs tamron 18-250
I guess I didn't phrase that very well. If I am taking shots in my garden, unless I need wider than 70mm, I will pick the camera with the 70-300g, which will almost always be my lens of choice for things like butterflies, birds or close ups of flowers. It just has better IQ than the 18-250 especiall...

Re: 100-300 APO
Good captures. My copy was not very sharp even though it looked new and I sold it . It's a great carry round lens being small and compact. You seem to have a good copy so enjoy!

Re: sony vs tamron 18-250
OK. It's gratifying to see my thread on DP review quoted by Sonalta. Basically this subject has been done to death over there. In the days when I had enough money not to worry about it I would have swapped my Tammy for a Sony if there was any difference. There wasn't and isn't so far as I can see. I...

Re: Extending my reach
Tom, is this the close up lens you're referring to? http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=1001932 Yes, that's the one. It works pretty well with the Sigma 70-300, but I am not sure, based on my tests today, whether it will be useful with the 70-300G. I didn't know it was still av...

Re: Extending my reach
Thanks Guys, for the welcome I don't have a 62-58 converter ring yet so cannot really try the combo I mentioned properly. I did try holding the close up lens against the filter (not the front element!!!) of the G today. It didn't work very well! The focus range is very small althugh the image is cer...

Re: Extending my reach
Hi For what it is worth, I have had the Min 75-300 'new' (with dof hold button on the side), the KM 75-300D, the 100-300apo (non D), the sigma 70-300DG APO (red ring) and the 70-300G. The best is without a doubt the 'G', which is quite outstanding at 300 wide open. The 'New' and the 100-300 apo were...
