Re: Do you think they are actually trying to do it...one day

The other solution is too far-fetched, that the original camera that recorded the photo actually produced a complete record of a moment in ‘time’ at that location and the machine could use the photo as a ‘portal’ to revisit that frozen moment and navigate through it. Greg, It may well be the way ou...

Re: The sincerest form of flattery ... Leica T announced

Looking at the image samples (as seen at dpr), I'd say they have tonnes of problems with internal reflections in the sensor toppings plus some very funny DoF modulation problems reminiscent of what I've seen with the Nex5N.
So far, quite poor an attempt by Leica...

Re: Sony A6000

When I spoke with the Sony ppl last month, they were specially proud of the Bionz X and told me that the processor is what will make the difference (comparing to the Nikon D800, that shares "same" sensor than the A7R) and just that will justify upgrading from the NEX7. Their real problem ...

Re: Sony A6000

To me, the real question is if this A6000 really provides any image quality improvement over the Nex7. If it does, I'm in. If the AF is as good as claimed, then even more so. And then if the focusing system could confirm focus in MF with each and every lens attached, then even much more so I would b...

Re: Sony planning first "non-Bayer" Sensor

As reported (seen on SAR and elsewhere), Sony is buying Nintendo's fab specifically to bake the stacked sensors. The stack is a BSI matrix atop of a processing chip of the same size. The BSI layer has those all-important vertical interconnects. That's the future imminent coming closer upon us. Means...

Re: Sony E PZ 18-105G with a7 or a7R NON-crop mode?

Pako, Quite frankly, I see no point in getting any of those. They are quite limited in many aspects - no good AF, too low pixel density (lenses outresolve the sensor by far - means very 'digital' look), no adequate flash system, etc. But then again, the 7r may interest me if I really need an effecti...

Re: Sony E PZ 18-105G with a7 or a7R NON-crop mode?

Apparently, pincushion is quite pronounced -corrected on most still cameras, but not on the first old big video cameras, and that is quite silly, since this is a lens optimized for video. The matter is - pincussion distortion at the wide end is good for sharper corners after correction. The corners...

Re: New Olympus E-M1 body for 4/3 and m4/3 lenses

Henry, The problem is, the more vegetation is there, the more carbon circulates in atmosphere. During its life cycle it accumulates carbon from air and soil, and upon its death releases that carbon back into the air. It's only in the polar areas that accumulated carbon may stay in the soil, but the ...

Re: Sony planning first "non-Bayer" Sensor

I surely saw that rumour. Seems plausible. The 54Mp density is about enough to start with non-Bayer layouts, and such density is an overkill for a straight co-sited Foveon. The real problem with PDAF on the main sensor is actually the readout speed necessary for the fast enough AF function. Canon al...

Re: RX10 looks interesting

Btw it would seem that the only Sony camera to have no purple ghost reflections into edges/corners of the image (and no PF in image at all, since PF is of the same nature) is the A7r. And the A7 is quite badly traditional in that respect. Looks like that removal of AA-filter also led to some benefic...

Re: FF announced

A couple of questions about this new range. Does anyone know 1. Whether it is necessary to use the LA-EA4 adapter to achieve autofocus with A-mount lenses on the A7 (given that this camera has phase detection AF on the sensor) or will the LA-EA3 do the trick? Clearly the LA-EA4 would be required fo...

Re: Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 review

Yes Agorabasta I remember, but the divided pixels in the Canon are different to your design, the result AF wise might be similar but the Canon design wouldn’t have alternate one colour column layout, but even with that new method the jury is still out on how much light loss there actually is. The p...

Re: RX10 looks interesting

I'm also not really impressed, more of I'm being *issed. Those boys have the greatest sensor in existence, an absolutely great superzoom lens; and yet they put a dumb old hot mirror right above the sensor - and kill the sys performance completely. I cannot understand why, as the hot mirror right abo...

Re: Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 review

Thing is, mirrorless AF involves light loss, ... That's exactly what it does not. Even the E-M1 with its quite efficient PDAF sheds mere 100k sensels out of 16M for that purpose. That's zilch. Then the split-sensel design as seen in the 70D actually increases the effective aperture of the sensor - ...

Re: RX Nex? Seriously?

Barry, having a good 1:1 crop out of an FF frame is a very nice thing, moreso if the viewfinder allows for such a crop framing. That's what I'm interested in. But quite unfortunattely, the pixel density of even the a7r is far too low to ensure proper 'analogue' rendering of fine textures and edges. ...
