Re: Considering defecting.....

The center press joystick for spot AF would be nice but that is all minor to me as I always used Local AF on my a700 and manually picked the points I wanted. The only time I used center point AF was when I was in low light situations and wanted AF acquisition to be as fast as possible. I never used ...

Re: Considering defecting.....

Thanks Elisha - but all that is clearly explained in the manual, and works exactly as I have said. My issue with the 7D is that the most accurate metering mode - uncannily accurate - is Evaluative with the auto selection of 19-point focus. It will resist almost any kind of lighting problem and prod...

Re: Considering defecting.....

Changing the AF mode is a dual button function......however changing AF points within an AF mode is a single button thing and can be done with the joystick while still looking into the VF like the a700 if you go to C.FnIV and set the joystick (Multi-controller) to AF point direct selection. And I fi...

Re: Considering defecting.....

I initially only switched for video but high ISO performance on the 7D is phenomenal.

Re: Considering defecting.....

Here's how you change (compare this to the KM Dynax 7D): first, you must press the shutter to activate the camera - focus mode can not be changed unless the camera thinks you are taking a picture. Now press the AF-mode button (five horizontal lines button). At this point nothing changes on the top ...

Re: Considering defecting.....

The 7D is much sharper than the D90. Noise wise the 7D has a slight edge especially when processed with DPP and not in LR.
Could be the lens too. But the 7D is really good.
I have video of the baby at high ISO but trying to figure out how to edit it first!

Re: Considering defecting.....

So I picked up the Canon 7D on Tuesday.
Sold my last piece of Sony equipment yesterday!

This camera is badass.

Re: Emma @ 1600

David, is there much difference between the video implementation on the D90 compared to the D5000?

Re: Considering defecting.....

I'm more fascinated with the fact that the bigger sensors create a surreal subject isolation. I thought of getting a separate video recorder but I rather be have it on the DSLR and have the ability to change lenses.

Re: Considering defecting.....

I'm not gonna be using the video function for fast moving objects. Pentax is out of the question since the lenses for it and the accessories are even harder to come by for me. Canikon stuff is plentiful in the local kijiji and craiglist sites. And since most people say it's all about the glass, I do...

Re: Considering defecting.....

The types of videos that are being taken on the current DSLRs are the types of snippets I used to take when I actively used my camcorder when I got it in the end of 2002. I like the idea of little clips here and there that captures the moment and the better high ISO capability while doing it. MF or ...

Re: Considering defecting.....

I've considered that. However Sony's IS can be circumvented by Canikon's high ISO. Plus even the kit lenses these days have IS on them. I don't see to many Canikon users suffering from bad images because of the lack of IS. And to tell you the truth, I'm not sure if I would miss it at all! As for vid...

Considering defecting.....

So like the title says, I'm considering jumping ship. One of the main reasons in video. And since Sony has not committed to video, I can't justify sticking around. My baby boy is turning 5 months old now so I would like tome videos of him. My Mini DV camcorder is just not cutting it. Plus everything...
