Re: The new Vario-Tessar 16-70mm f/4 tested on NEX-7
The Vario Tessar is an E mount lens for Sony NEX cameras. This is a modern lens and there isn't the need of refocus changing the focal in the zoom travel. The name Vario today means zoom lens in the Zeiss dictionary, I think. The name Tessar too was related to a four elements very sharp Zeiss lens o...

This seems the first measured test of the Vario-Tessar. My impressions on my sample were rigth, the little Zeiss is a masterpiece:

The new Vario-Tessar 16-70mm f/4 tested on NEX-7
Hello, I tested my new Vario-Tessar on the NEX-7 and this is what I have found: "This sixteen elements Vario-Tessar it is certainly as good as his famous ancestor four elements Zeiss Tessar. The small Zeiss for the E mount is light and well balanced on the NEX-7, has convenients focal lengths, ...

Re: ASFERICO PHOTO CONTEST 2013 - highlighted with Sony NE
Thank you very much, friends!
The Sony Nex-7 camera is very useful when traveling, makes excellent photographs and stunning video too. Since the NEX-7 is on my hands, my Sony HVR-Z5E camcorder stays at home, because is bigger and not so pratical to carry with me in a plane!

ASFERICO PHOTO CONTEST 2013 - highlighted with Sony NEX-7
Hello to all the friends. I am a landscape photographer, working mainly in Sardinia, Italy. From the beginning, I have always make use of Minolta gears and when I switched from film to digital I chose Sony A900. From march 2012 I'm shooting with the beautiful Sony NEX-7 and Sony E 18-55 OSS, an exce...

Re: Better EVF
I agree with you dear Dr..
Me too, when I'm photographing with NEX-7 in RAW mode, I have found to select NEUTRAL style and then to give all setting a -3 flattens the scene in the viewfinder. So dark areas and brigth one show better detail.

Re: Does low light matter to you?
Hello to all. Low light means tripod when I'm out photographing landscapes with care. I have experimented the A900 in low light and I'm satisfied with result. Here is a photograph taken with an exposure of about 7' (seven minutes!) at ISO 200 and F/16. The picture is clean and sharp. The camera work...

Re: Three years of landscape photography with Sony A900
Yes Capture One removes the CA, but center remains sharper than corners. When shooting videos the 18-55 in unvaluable at 18 mm with NEX-7 suspended on a stabilizer: walking and panning the motion pictures are so smooth. But on still images there are better choiches. Even the Konica-Minolta DT 18-70 ...

Re: Three years of landscape photography with Sony A900
Thank you very much! On NEX-7 when I'm in the outdoors, devoted in some hard trekking, I make use of the kit lens 18-55 OSS, because is very portable and does have the antishake sistem. But speaking about image quality, sharpness on corners, especially at the wide end of the zoom isn't in pair with ...

Re: Calcareous rocks, Sardinia West Coast. Summer Sunset.
Thank you very much, my friends. The blue is so deep because the water isn't illuminated by the sun, but by sky only, because sun rays were parallels to sea surface. Water becomes flushed with the color of the sky. Where the blue is darker there are rocks just below sea level. The neutral filter hel...

Three years of landscape photography with Sony A900
Hello, I was at a still with my posts. Some years ago, in my last posts, I was reporting about testing my (then new) A900 with an array of Minolta AF lenses. I was out in the last months in an attempt to take an advantage from the increased image quality, sharpness and tonal range. I have upload to ...

Calcareous rocks, Sardinia West Coast. Summer Sunset.
Hello to all friends. My last post is about three years old. I made an extensive use of my Sony A900 and I'm very satisfied. This is an experiment with low light. Sun was setting and at sea horizon level. Exposure was two minutes about in BULB, ISO 200, a strong neutral filter NDX64 on Minolta AF 24...

Re: Minolta AF 70-210 test @200mm samples
OK David, I will try those settings. Many thanks.
We are all a kinda of perfectionist here, but the A900 has really some great potentialities and it takes me some time to know the camera and the programs well.
Regards and Merry Christmas to you, to your family and to all the people.

Re: Minolta AF 70-210 test @200mm samples
Antonio, good demonstration but you have used so much sharpening it is impossible to tell how the lens performs. Here's a sample from the Alpha 200, which has slightly less pixel density than the A900: http://www.pbase.com/davidkilpatrick/image/92723805 It is at ISO 400 which is not ideal, but you ...
