Thanks everyone.
I read a review of the e520 at dc resource and somewhere else. One of the negatives about the Olympus's is the noise gets a bit high due to the slightly smaller sensor. I'll just present some options with the pros and cons and let the person decide.

Re: what do people use instead of the kit lens on a crop camera?
I'm not sure which PnS hes currently using now. Something that's not that great, thus the need to upgrade. He used to use a Fuji PnS which had very good looking color. He mentioned that he wants to use a new camera occasionally to take a few soccer shots but that would require another lens. If it was...

You better send it back for a refund and ask for one with the wireless flash option

Re: what do people use instead of the kit lens on a crop camera?
Cheers Ill check that out. I'm not too familiar with the plethora of models from all the other brands except to know that the Olympus cameras are small and have a good reputation for decent color. and the person specifically wanted a relatively small camera so the Olympus might be suitable. Someone ...

Re: what do people use instead of the kit lens on a crop camera?
Thanks for the answers everyone and for the links Regarding the kit lens. I haven't used mine too much. The range is certainly very useful to use a s a general purpose lens, especially since it starts at 18mm. And stopping down a bit helps get a lot of the scene in focus, similarly to a point and sh...

Re: Sonolta's fault
It looks a little funny to me. The photo looks like you're about to witness a guy being run over on the beach. well I'm going through my old stuff thanks to Sonolta's responses in the storage thread and I came across this image I had intended to clean up and print and never got to it. I think this s...

Re: a100 questions
Cheers I'll give that a go just in case any lenses screws tighten up a little. I just read your cz 16-80 review and saw that you noted the same thing I noticed regarding the different tightness of the mount on film cameras. The lenses all seem to fit tightly and snugly on the film cameras. I have on...

what do people use instead of the kit lens on a crop camera?
Someone I know in the UK wants a better camera than their current point and shoot. I was thinking of recommending the a200, however the sony 18-70mmn kit lens isn't good enough for using all of the time, although the focal range is ideal for someone who will be using 1 lens 95% of the time and who w...

Re: a100 questions
I don't know about the 50 1.7. It was too hard to judge any lens properly while the camera wasn't focusing well. I received the camera back and the camera seems to be working a lot better now and some of my lenses that my a100 has never focused reliably are now focusing very well, eg the 50 1.4 and ...

Re: a100 questions
Here are some of my test shots I did on some targets. I shot with a tripod and the timer, and shot manual focus after the AF shots to compare. Although it can be hard to manual focus accurately I still managed much better shots with manual focus most of the time, and it showed just how bad the camer...

Re: a100 questions
Thanks for the welocme and all the replies everyone. Since the firmware has no effect on iso 100 shots that eliminates one variable and I can focus on the others. I spoke to the service person and he suggested that I photograph some brick walls or text with a tripod and send him the cd of images so ...

Re: a100 questions
Hi Sonolta, Is that NO a definitive answer? I want to revert back to eliminate any of the detail smearing noise reduction the later firmware may add to the photos so that I can asses the focus and sharpness of my photos a lot easier. I received my camera back from service a day ago and so far I cant...

Does anyone know if one can revert back to the original 1.0 or 1.1 firmware from the 1.04 firmware by installing the old firmware again? thanks
