The 1980s win versus social distancing!

Well, I scan old slides and I do put them on Alamy for magazines and media to licence and use - but this one is a bit special. It shows Hans Wiesenhofer and members of the Minolta Club of Austria having an evening beer with the village of upper Pollau (berg) in the distance, during a Minolta worksho...

Re: Back in operation

It's Colin my son-in-law who did the fix - since he set up the current hosting, but it's his line of work and he was able to do it in minutes.

Back in operation

This board should now be fully usable again. The backup restored was from July 23rd so if you've lost a post or reply, it would have been around that date.

Re: Dusting off lens - part 3

It was always a surprise - a lens with social distancing built-in at the long end. But the 28mm macro was usable in some conditions. Good to see excellent colours and contrast!

Re: Gateway Arch - Saint Louis

Fascinating. We used a photo taken by Richard Kilpatrick when he visited in the 1990s, remember it was a 645 transparency from Fuji 645SW - the one with the fixed 45mm wide-angle lens. Had no idea it was something you could go inside, thought it was just a sculpture installation!

Re: Spring has Srpung

Here's a scilla or squill - this is at 1:1 scale with the 100mm Sony (ex-Minolta) A-mount macro, on the LA-EA3 adaptor, on A7RIII using a Neewer 48-LED ringlight (which does continuous or flash at fairly low power). For macro shots I now set the A7RIII to ISO640, which is a setting giving raw file q...

Re: Helping Friends with Short Art Films

Your admin has finally managed to get access to the forum (seriously, I deal with so many variations of websites and the forum is not recognised as having a different URL to the main site - get locked out all the time!). Excellent insight into film-making. We have a local festival here, the Alchemy ...

Re: A Giselle Weekend

Still surprised by how good the RX100 MkIV back illuminated CMOS is. To keep up to date with other systems, I've switched from APS-C Sony to Olympus (and may not ever go back to APS-C Sony, only full frame - that's another story). Good though the Olympus 20 megapixel sensor is, when I do high ISO an...

Re: DxO: Sony A900 vs Olympus E-M10II

We've actually just bought an E-M5 II with 12-40mm and then acquired a well-priced used 75-300mm II Olympus for it. Shirley has now had one cataract operation and is in the queue for what may be both a further cataract operation and corneal graft - which could restore vision to both eyes, 3D again -...

Re: Godox TT685S Flash

A warning, I have this flash which is great but also have the Li-ion model, had it for a year in Nikon fit. The Li-ion cell blew up (expanded) during charging and shows up as dead so I had to buy a new one. It had not been used much just lent to one press photographer who covered an event. The Li-io...

Re: "Brexit" hits prices hard on tech goods

Yes, I have the 28mm f/2 and it's a great lens. I spent some time with the Batis trio too (but can not write about it yet as the review was commissioned by the BJP, and they can take three months to print - I used those lenses in June!). Without their added muscle I would never, ever have got all th...

Re: "Brexit" hits prices hard on tech goods

Still got the 50mm macro - the Tamron is not mine, and will go back, it's not as good as the Sony 70-300mm FE (mostly, CA/purple fringe which is completely absent in the Sony). The odd thing is that the 55mm is better than the macro for copying artwork because it has very high microcontrast, but the...
