Re: Sony's 100mm macro??

LOL! Olaf you can roll your eyes all you like. I won't argue with you. If you don't get the fact that the lens does not make the portrait then the art of the portrait is lost on you, classic or otherwise. That's OK. Not everybody is suppose to get it. That's why some people take pictures of flowers ...

Re: Sony's 100mm macro??

Generally, a portrait lens should have a focal length of 85 - 135 mm for full-frame 35-mm format or 55 - 90 mm for APS-C, and a minimum focus distance of approx. 1 m or thereabouts. The lens speed shouldn't be much lower than f/4 or f/4.5. Faster lenses are nice to have ... but contrary to common b...

Re: Sony's 100mm macro??

Doc,
A wide angle is not in the cards for this job. I'm not apposed to wide angle as a tool for shooting people. Just not for this job.

Re: Sony's 100mm macro??

What kind of portrait shooting do you mean, Gary? They won't be single image portraits even though a single image should be able to stand on it's own for this job. These will be multi(8-10) image character studies using expressions and facial gestures shot close up. They will be b&w images in t...

Re: Sony's 100mm macro??

Thanks pakodominguez,

Hmmm. Too sharp you say? Is that even possible? :D I will be shooting this wide open with a very shallow depth of field. I will also get the CZ 85mm but I don't think it focuses close enough for this style of shoot we are after.

Sony's 100mm macro??

Hi folks I'm about to take the leap into the world of the a900 :D I would like to use it on this large job I have coming up in the next couple of weeks. I'm in need of some closeup shots of faces that will go to print(ad campaign and booklets, etc) and I'm wondering about the quality of the Sony 100...

Dynaxfl,
This is what makes us all unique and interesting. We do what we do differently with diverse results.
Sometime I'm a little old school in my way of doing things. <<<That just sounded old >>>
From a non UV filter user to a UV filter user, Happy New Year. :D

Re: A Question about filter

LOL! I know you didn't pay that little for a filter. I was just trying to make a point. There are good quality filters but they don't come close to the quality of expensive lenses. Light has to pass through cheaper, lesser quality glass to get to your very crisp, well made, expensive glass. Opticall...

Re: A Question about filter

I totally agree with the Doc.
You spend sometimes thousands on a lens and then put a ¢10 piece of glass in front of it to protect it. Never made much sense to me. Sometimes filters are a necessity but more so in the film days.
But that is just my ¢10.
Protect your lenses with lens caps.

Re: new kingfisher picture`s part two

I love birds. I don't photograph them . . . . not sure why. :?

Anyway these shots of the kingfisher are very good. Great detail and colour.
You are a dedicated kingfisher shooter, Kingfisher. I admire that patience of yours.

Re: PMA 2009

Thanks Doc, I thought I'd check this site out if I was going to get an a900 for working with. I'm impressed with the Zeiss lenses. I could have bought the D3X that I was waiting for but I needed a few lenses also and that would have run the cost up to $12,000.00 + Canadian. I've not seen any differe...

Re: PMA 2009

From the PMA site>>>>>> "I received an email tip from someone who provided accurate info on the A900 that the entire Sony Alpha DSLR lineup will be replaced in 2009." I'm not interested in the anything but the a900. I will be purchasing a whole system around the time of the 16-35 release. ...
