Re: Multi interface shoe problems are real
I too am interested in the compatibility issues with this new hot shoe. I would like to use a portable outdoor flash unit with my A7 and over here the Jinbei HD-600V seems to be a cracking unit in terms of bang for buck (the US equivalent is Adorama's Rovelight HD-600, which appears to be based on t...

Re: 90mm macro
Presumably the new Sony. Try the Tamron 90/2.8 1:1 as an alternative. Focuses fast at both short and long throw.

Re: Post about the A7R II up now
I'm sure that a battery grip would make life easier but you still need charged batteries. My concern is how I would be able to charge 3 or 4 batteries overnight without a couple of chargers when it takes over 3 hours to charge one. I must emphasise, though that I have not yet done a field test and t...

Re: RX100 replacement options
I'm in same position. I love my RX100 but it's a bore having to wear glasses to see the LCD and even then it's not that clear. Most of the time I just point and shoot from a blurred composition on the screen. Very poor quality finish on the screen, btw. My camera has been kept in a pouch since new b...

Re: Post about the A7R II up now
I got my A7RII from Wex last week and have had little quality time with it. However I can say that it's resolution is, unsurprisingly, excellent. There are a couple of links below to shots taken with a Tamron 90/2.8 macro (excellent lens) with the LA-EA4 adapter. I have also tried my old Minolta17-3...

Re: Sony 7r
Two old MF lenses which I have found work extremely well on the a7 are the Minolta MD 35-70/3.5 macro (the best variant of this lens) and the Canon FDn L 80-200/4. Both are small for their zoom ranges. I have been astounded by the sharpness of the latter, even when wide open.

Re: Sony 7r
I feel that dpr is rather irrelevant these days. When digital cameras were in their infancy it undoubtedly had a place but the formulaic approach is out of date IMO and this latest piece makes me think about Nigel Lawson's coment about "teenage scribblers". I have an a7 and it is the best ...

Re: Full Frame UWA choices
These things are always subjective to a degree but my unequivocal opinion is as I stated. The G is a much better lens IMO although I imagine the D is good enough for small prints.classiccameras wrote:Artington, there are a couple of interesting user reviews on the KM 17-35 F/2.8 D lens in SLRgear.

Re: Full Frame UWA choices
Go for the Minolta 17-35/3.5 G if you can find one. Fantastic lens with great Minolta colours. Not quite as good as CZ at extremities but half the price. I never liked the 17-35/2.8-4D. But it is fair value at current prices.

Re: A7 crippled sensor?
Well I defer to all the theoreticians here but I can pass on my few days' practical observations with the a7. Firstly, the IQ is a noticeable improvement on that of the NEX7, which was no slouch itself. Secondly, I have seen no colour shift down to 28mm RF although with this focal length there is ce...

Re: FF announced
I have decided to buy an A7. For me the extra Mp of the A7R confers no IQ advantages as I never print above A3+. Some here have discussed waiting to see how Sony develops the A-mount before considering this new FE range. No harm in that except, as the old saying goes, ars longa vita brevis. Also, as...

Re: FF announced
This link gives some examples of using A7R with legacy lenses. The range is broad from wide to moderate telephoto. Interesting to see that it is only the LM lenses that are prone to problems of lateral shading and/or colour banding.

Re: FF announced
Imaging Resource also (see earlier link in this thread) Not that surprising seeing as Sony make both sensors. You would expect them to tweak their own versus competing products - and I think it may be fair to say that the a7r does compete with the D800e and 5D3 for people who are not already wedded ...
