Re: 17-35mm G version or 16-35mm Carl Zeiss

The A57 (and presumably the other current SLT models) only provides lens compensation for the following 12 lenses. I assume more lenses will be added with the recently announced firmware update.  The new 16-50 f/2.8 DT SSM “kit” lens (SAL1650)  The older 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 DT SAM “kit” lens (SAL1855)...

Re: Tamron have gone a bit nuts too

Couldn't agree more, Barry. Glad I still have my 4-year-old Tamron 90mm macro. The no VC thing with no price discount is irritating, and I refuse to buy any Alpha-mount lenses marketed this way.

Re: SLT A57 question

I've read enough "clear image zoom" threads over at DPR to know that not everyone, including me, considers the zoom button a waste. However, I do agree that it would be ideal if it could be user-assigned for those who wish to do so. Totally agree on the ? button, which on my A57 only gets ...

Re: SLT A57 thoughts and ramblings...

Oh, I can imagine it, but it does make me laugh that Sony used that as the excuse. If that was all there was to it then Sony could just put the cover in the box, but leave it off the body so when people look at the camera at the store or open the box they can see the flash shoe. Companies can do wh...

Re: SLT A57 thoughts and ramblings...

The strap is slightly better than the A200 one not as super cheap/stiff feeling far from amazing but it's "ok" for what it is. You don't get a hot shoe cover (nor anywhere to store one on the strap as no eyepiece cup), I have these knocking around so no big deal. Manual for the camera is ...

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report

Hope you enjoy your new A57, Barry. I haven't put my A57 through its full paces yet as I'm recovering from recent back surgery. However, I believe that my CZ 16-80 focuses a bit faster and more accurately on the A57 than it did on my A700. I prefer the A57's smaller size compared to the A700, althou...

Happy Birthday, David!

As for retirement, my personal experience has led me to conclude that retirement is highly under-rated!

Re: Bython.com : Heck With Shooting, What to Buy?

Actually, as opposed to Lens Bands--which are designed to solve lens creep--the Lens Bracelets are intended to be worn on one's wrist! For example: "The black with red stripe Lens Bracelet for Canon Pro C from Lens Bracelet sends a message that you are a Canon afficianado and are proud to displ...

Speaking of brand image:

And here I've always refused to wear any camera straps with the camera manufacturer's name on them.

Re: Bython.com : Heck With Shooting, What to Buy?

Thom must have had me in mind when he stated that "Sony Alpha fans tend to be younger and want to project some sort of hipness." Well, at least my young grandson thinks I'm hip! In terms of brand image, I've yet to encounter another human being using a Sony DSLR/DSLT/NEX anywhere in my tra...

Re: My experience going from A700 to Canon 60D

Have never tried the A580, but so far I have not noticed any flash delay on my A57; nor any flash overexposure problems, as many have reported on the A65 and A77. Perhaps Sony is slowly working the bugs out of the SLTs.

Re: My experience going from A700 to Canon 60D

Recently purchased a Sony A57 to use along with my A700 and I'm very satisfied with it for my casual shooting purposes. Yes, it lacks some of the A700's (and A77's) features, but my only real complaint is the inability to set the Auto ISO range to suit my preferences. I love the A57's size and the w...

Re: How much is your DSLR net cost?

Have never sold one of my DSLRs so this is easy.

A700 - $839.99 US (owned 51 months with zero problems)
A57 - $618.00 US (owned one week)
