Sony A77

I have my beady eyes on a heavily discounted A77 body and 16-50 lens, however I'm reading all about these so called mushy JPEG's due to heavy handed noise reduction, and the evf contrast blowing out hilites etc which cannot be corrected it seems. Anyone got any comments? :?

Re: Flowers 2011 (Photoclubalpha Flora)

Thanks Birma and Greg for taking time out to comment. Very encouraging. Greg I think you're right about the magnification issue. The reason then it worked on this occasion is probably due to the miniscule focussing adjustments and only having three shots to stack. I've been having a longing look at ...

Re: Flowers 2011 (Photoclubalpha Flora)

Hi Birma.. Thanks for your enouraging remarks. The separate stack shots were all taken at f5.6. I don't think a single shot at f32 would have given me the required overall depth although in a pre focus stacking era, working at such small apertures was it seemed the only option. That is why I kitted ...

Re: Flowers 2011 (Photoclubalpha Flora)

Having an f32 aperture on my 100mm minolta macro and ringflash doesn't lways give me the depth of field necessary to have a sharp image. So with the 15 cm hibiscus bloom flowering in the garden begging to be photographed, I thought I would experiment with focus stacking to maximise the depth of focu...

Re: POLL: How much do you use the video function?

"TOM B Now I think of buying the microphone ECM-ALST1 - does anyone have an experience?" I've used a generic shotgun microphone with my A33. Firstly I placed it on a tripod away from the camera because of the noise of the af motor in the SAM lens. This was quite successful OUTSIDE. If you ...

Re: POLL: How much do you use the video function?

I find the video option on my A33 handy to have. But as for making a video I would rather use a dedicated camcorder. My greatest bugbear with the A33 is the noisy AF on the SAM lens which clicks loudly on continous autofocus. Using manual focus is of no use unless you have a focus puller standing by...

Re: Minolta 75-300

Very true David. Once I had replaced that rearmost element I was so mad that the electrical contact had somehow been lost/broken. It's a bit like throwing good money after bad I know but I had to give it a shot. My view is though that it helps me to learn repair work and I have been quite succesful ...

Re: Minolta 75-300

To answer my own question.. no.. or maybe?. The 8 pin fpc is bulkier than the original.I couln't see how I could bend or shape it to fit the anchor points used for the minolta fpc. I have a sneaky suspicion that it could unless they have redesigned the inner barrels, although the breakdown diagram o...

Minolta 75-300

The fpc on my older minolta 75-300 f4.5~5.6 seems to have gone kaput. [My A350 and 7000i won't recognize it] I have already replaced the 4th lens group (the rearmost element- due to the original element having fungus in between the cemented elements ) with a Sony one so the parts seem to be intercha...

Re: Minolta Macro Flash Controller MFC1000

Thanks for that info Mike.. I'm glad no one was caught including me. I would not have been happy to have received their package her in Australia with no controller. It's a very high price to pay for just the flash units. http://www.discountjungle.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return...
