David, thank you for the quick response. So, on the A900 I'm planning to buy, the CZ16-80 would act als a 24-120 mm using only an APS-C part of its full size sensor. In other words, exactly the same as on the A700 I currently own. In that case I think I'll stick to the Minolta 24-85/3.5-4.5 + Sigma ...

CZ16-80 suitable for Alpha 900's full frame?
Just to make sure... The Zeiss 16-80 is 'optimized for APS-C sensor'. So it's no good on the Alpha 900? Or does it just perform less towards the edges? A phone call to Sony Netherlands didn't get me further than a nervous adolescent stating that he 'couldn't guarantee a proper functioning'...
