But what is it? http://lionels.orpheusweb.co.uk/MorePics2/DD1.jpg Edit, Really nice pic's there too Sury and Marcell They dropped through whilst I was having a spot of bother with the board not recognising the size of my image. I don't know why ...

What a beaut'. Nice one indeed. With that 70-400mm again I suppose?

Re: Sony Alpha77 - first impressions

Thanks for that tip B.

Having had a suspicion I have just mated 16-50mm f2.8 SSM lens that came with the A77 to a Dynax 7 film body and yes - vignetting as it is an C format lens only! Drat, that slipped under the radar as I have avoided these types until now. Hum!

Re: Blast from the past

Thanks Sury and Birma. Yes Mike I am sure that the programme you mention was covering Woodham's Scarap Yard on Barry Island, South Wales, near Cardiff. Here is one that escaped GWR King Class 6023 King Edward II. I first photographed it during my 1983 visit when I focused on the cut driving wheels w...

Re: The Changed World

Hum! How much am I bid for a 1968 SRT101 with original 55mm F1.7 Rokkor?

Cost new in UK about £180

Which works out at roughly £2800 by today's rates.

Now who grumbles about the price of A99 (no flake supplied)?

Re: Sony Alpha77 - first impressions

Well after some use this A77 is beginning to grow on me. I have now put the strap from my Dynax 7 onto the Alpha 77 so have a more comfortable strap now with places to clip flash shoe cover and strain relief for a remote cable, I have the short and long versions of this. So, if Sony want their produ...

Lionel, it is 1:4, but goes to 1:2 with the special macro switch which you can use between 200 and 300 mm More details here, including min. focus http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/Sigma-70-300-F4-5.6-DG-APO-Macro_lens221.html . DK is very fond of his copy of this lens and I think he's said that he consid...

Re: From your garden/backyard

Greg, Was that yellowish tint due to haze? Sury The atmosphere tends to reduce the amount of blue light reaching the Earth, the thicker the atmosphere, e.g. when the moon is lower in the sky, then the more red-orange the object. This is also why a low sun appears more red. Particulates in the atmos...

Re: Blast from the past

The following pictures were from a set I took one chilly October Sunday afternoon at Woodham's Brothers scrap yard Barry Island South Wales in 1983. The primary intent of these images was to support a project in an arts module of an otherwise Maths and Science oriented degree course. The module was ...

Re: Flowers 2013

Thanks guys :) I'm afraid the Bluebell period is continuing for a bit, at least. Don't worry Burma I am enjoying them. Due to neighbour deciding to take down some fence panels during high winds I don't have much to shoot at the moment and I lack instant mobility for ranging far. ...and the second w...

Re: From your garden/backyard

Nice close ups Lionel. I am wondering if the harshness from flash could be tweaked down a tad. Sury Your the second one to mention this, I guess that you mean in the Damselfly pic's. I am not sure how I could tweak it down using a Stofen as I do, maybe its in the PP which also indicates a differenc...

Re: From your garden/backyard

Nice green butterfly Pat. I should let the missus know next time she asks me to pull out weeds that they are food for insects!!! Sury Indeed, to my mind many gardens and gardeners have been over clinical and formal with little left to nature. We don't do things that way leaving nettles and a little...
