on another UK forum there is a chap who certainly seems to be in Sony's good books & he says that there will be an A800 (no spec. details divulged by him though) this year.
he also says that according to Paul Genge Sony are working on an A900 firmware update.

aren't your professionals more likely to be using pro quality Ls though & therefore ring motors.
Micromotors seem more prone to fail?
I believe that Pentax have had failures with 2 SDM lenses in particular prone to it.

recently was out photographing red kites & of the 4 DSLR users in the hide 3 were Alpha users (2 A700s & 1 A900, all were previously Minolta users) & 1 Nikon. Not a Canon to be seen!

I've been waiting for this lens for a very long time as it is ideally suited to aviation photography as Heidfirst will no doubt testify. absolutely, as far as I'm concerned it's pretty much perfect for my needs. Only (minor) gripes other than those already mentioned would be I would have preferred ...

I've had mine since February (1 of the first in the UK) for use on A700/7D & agree that it's best in class - I have plenty of friends with the Canon 100-400 IS L & the G is better, no doubt imo. I've also used the Nikon 80-400mmm & again imo the G is better overall. The silver finish doe...
