Cameron Hill - aka 'brettania'

Forum watchers who remember Cameron Hill who posted at Dyxum under the name 'brettania' are invited to take part in an act of remembrance for Cam to coincide with his funeral (16/17 December, depending on where in the world you are). Details can be found by following the link below to the Dyxum thre...

Re: Scanning Torture (or Learning to Love Your Digital Camer

I've tried the route of shooting nagatives with a macro lens using a sheet of perspex and backlighting with flash - it is very quick (and is the only way I have of doing medium format negatives), but it can be very difficult to get a full tonal range - I find my Scan Dual II with VuScan gets more ou...

Re: Is samsung nx mount large enough for full-frame

Then why can Leica M 39 throat and 28.8 flange distance host FF sensor? The extra depth allows a throat smaller than the sensor itself as long as the rear element is near to the mount (if it is deeply recessed into the lens you might get vignetting). Another thing to consider with the new mounts is...

Re: Only real people on this forum?

I'm not quite sure what advantages the change is designed to bring. Where...

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report

Usage won't affect the life of Li-Ion batteries, which tend to lose 5% of capacity over the course of any one year, even if stored in ideal conditions.

Abuse, such as shocks from dropping, shorting or even storage at extremes of temperature can increase the loss significantly.

Re: NEX-7

To my mind there are only three issues with the NEX-7: 1. It doesn't use the '500' battery. 2. It doesn't have body-based anti-shake. 3. It isn't full-frame. Other than the above, it would seem to be a superb spec - looks pretty gorgeous too... Unfortunately this may keep the price higher than it wo...

Re: Are DSLR cameras really better than PnS cameras?

Better is a strange old concept... The main advantages for me are the reduced noise from a larger sensor, ability to control depth of field (to a greater extent than on small sensor cameras) and ability to use specialised lenses. In the old days, lack of shutter lag would also have been an issue, bu...
