The longer the distance, the more difficult it is to accurately arrive at a correct judgement. The best way of learning is to get to know somewhere near home, and measure out by footsteps (typically about 1 metre/yard for a normal footstep). It's my bet that over the next 2 to 5 years, perhaps (?) excepting the top professional DSLR's of all makes, the only option will be SLT's. Sony are leading the way here, and have given very strong hints that the a77 will have a greatly advanced viewfinder than those found on the a33 etc. I would be...

In many ways it is a matter of what you want to achieve by upgrading. In my case, as an old back injury is playing up, to upgrade from my excellent a700 would be to have live-view with a folding (up and down) screen. I am uncertain about switching to an electronic viewfinder, but I suspect my doubts...
