Re: Free TV with A99

Barry, I think their FF bodies for next year would be in the Cybershot range (RX2, RX3, or similar). But don't take my word for it. If they are aiming for number 2, then one of their "weapons" might be a diversified approach to attract amateurs/professionals with their different camera sy...

Re: Risk of SLT mirror degradation over medium term?

My concern is more to do with atmospheric exposure. The brochure for the a99 highlights the "newly developed coating on the surface of the optical low-pass filter [on the sensor]" and the "anti-dust mechanism that vibrates the filter at high speed ..." but makes no comment at al...

Re: Free TV with A99

How about buy a 32" TV and get a "free" A99? Sounds good to me To each his own. I'm sure its a fine camera or people like David K. would not be buying it. Whether it is worth $2800 is another question. The TV Sony is giving away with it, retails for $400. If Sony credit is used for t...

Free TV with A99

I looked at the Sony US site wondering if they had any deals on Black Friday. They are giving away 32 inch TV if you buy an A99 between now and Monday.

They don't say which TV, but I'm going to find out and maybe I'll bite.

Re: Lens review

Any one used the Konica Minolta AF 17-35 F/2.8 wide zoom and how did it perform. I already have the Minolta 24-85 and its a cracker, I thought the 17-35 would be a good partner. I have seen one going for under £200. kurt Munger review gave it a positive review. Thanks Peter I have the KM lens. Its ...

Bausch & Lomb 1902 Camera

Does anyone have an idea what a "intact 1902 Bausch & Lomb tripod camera" might be and the value? -- There is an auction coming in a small town over the mountain from me this weekend and its on the list of things being auctioned. I might go and bid if its something special that ought t...

Re: Sony A77 Screen Protector

You cannot use thick screen savers on the a77, otherwise the screen couldn't flip towards the camera. I bought a couple from e-Bay: EXIM screen protector, ultra protect They were cheap, are very bright, and comes with 2 pieces. I still have one. Sony makes one for the A77 that they describe as a ha...

Re: Good RAW processing program for Sony files

Thanks everyone for the valued input. I'm still not sure which way to go but at least I feel better informed. I'm surprised no one mentioned DXO's software?? Ron Probably because most are using Adobe stuff. -- I use DXO and wouldn't go to Adobe. DXO periodically gives web training by some of the Pr...

Re: Sony A77 Screen Protector

I'd buy the Sony protector. -- I think they are bit thicker. I dropped my A850 once. It landed on the back, broke the screen protector but saved the LCD. It was worth the extra $5.

Re: 200mm lens

The 55-200 is a DT lens and therefore not wholly suitable for an A850.
No one has mentioned it yet, but unless you can get a Minolta 70-210 for a $200 -- I'd be considering the Sony 70-300. It great on the A850.

Re: 5DMark3 - IR Comparometer vs. A900
Okay, would like to open this post to all members now. Basically, if no one responds, I'll have to assume my points have been conceeded. I wouldn't assume any such thing. I have an A850 and to be honest with you, it does what I need -- so I'm not looking for the la...

TTL metering

Help. I have to take some pictures at a retirement dinner. I have not seen the location, so I don't know how high the ceilings are. I will be using an A850 with a HVLF43 flash and probably a Minolta 24-85 lens. I don't do much flash work, and I'm trying to figure out if I can bounce the flash off th...

Re: DXO Optics 7.1 now available - A77 and A65 supported

You absolutely cannot use true geometry-based CA corrections 'manually' in any version of DxO. The 'basic' CA control there for the unsupported lens/body configurations is mere desaturation and colour blurring around the edges - looks abominable. You absolutely cannot get colour calibration with Dx...

Sony 16mm Fisheye and DXO

Does anyone have experience correcting the curvature from the 16mm fisheye with DXO. The software claims it can do it. I like the idea of 180 degree view that can be corrected, but before I spend a $1000, I'd like to know if its all advertising or a correction that really works. I'd like a lens wide...
