Hi David,
Thanks for posting the example.
I'm very satisfied with the A900's overall output!

Re: RAW Advice
Actually, I just took a look at your article here: http://www.photoclubalpha.com/2008/02/21/a700-6400-iso-seven-raw-processors/ And, I've been reading Gary Friedman's book (workflow of Raw Therapee and Neatimage). My "laziness" probably stems from the fact that having 24mp packed into a FF...

RAW Advice
Hi David, I have to admit that I'm guilty of using my A900 and CZ 24-70 primarily in jpeg mode... I heard Sony's own RAW software is sub-par compared to what other software companies are providing these days. I have read about the other software such as DXO, Bibble, Lightroom, etc. I also see that p...

Re: Regarding A700 vs. A900 Depth of Field
I guess my last question would be: what percentage of the A900 viewfinder is used in the crop mode? And, is it even worth using the crop mode, in practice that is? Sometimes I miss my good ole A700, and I'm just curious if I can "get away" with saying that I "shouldn't" because t...

Regarding A700 vs. A900 Depth of Field
Hi David, Regarding your article, "Do you really need an A900?", if you use the APS-C crop mode feature of the A900, where it shoots in 11mp mode, would the Depth of Field characteristics then match the A700, but with 11mp vs. 12mp ? In other words, in the 11mp crop mode of the A900, does ...

Re: Sigma 8-16 - great result at Photozone!!!
Thanks David, I'll look forward to a new Sigma 12-24! BTW, the new Sigma 8-16 got 4 stars for optical quality at Photozone! That's absolutely a great result, don't you think? Plus, now APS-C users may get almost the same 12 or 12.8 mm wide angle zoom! This is great news for the A7XX replacement also...

Sigma 12-24 vs. Zeiss 16-35
Hi David Is the Zeiss 16-35 really worth $1K more than the Sigma 12-24? Basically, you get a 2.8, silent AF, and use of a CP filter. But, for landscapes, you get a really wide 12mm with the Sigma. So, my question here is based on your previous recommendation to not purchase any current Sony lenses, ...

Re: How To Test Your Lens At Different Apertures
Thanks David,
I just tried a tripod test shot at F16 with SSS turned Off - and the result was tack sharp on the first try.
I never understood why we must turn SSS Off when using a tripod and long timed exposures - could you explain?
Thanks,
Dave

How To Test Your Lens At Different Apertures
I recently tried performing a test of all the apertures on the Zeiss 24-70 lens on the A900. I just had the camera on tripod focused on my bookcase. I used 2 sec. drive mode to take each shot, but I left the Super Steady Shot On. Should I always turn SSS Off when using a tripod and 2 sec. Drive mode...

Re: alpha mount future - question for DK
One additional question David, Will the relatively new Sigma 18-250 HSM lens be a good fit for the A7XX replacement? Apologies if the answer to this question is based on it being screw driven vs. motor, etc. - I'm not too familiar with those specs for this lens... Or, better yet, would the thing to ...

Re: alpha mount future - question for DK
Thanks David, On my wish list for the A7XX, is the exmor HD cmos 14mp sensor that the NEX5 has (with its great high ISO noise control), sweep panoramic mode, and HDR mode. Also, a nice magnesium alloy body, like the A700 has. It will be very interesting to see what lenses come out, why they'll be co...

alpha mount future - question for DK
Hi David, A relative of mine has the Nikon D700 and I have the Sony A900. From time to time, when we're not talking about composition or where we would like to plan our next trip to, we talk about gear, brands, etc. He always says he wishes he had the resolution that my A900 has, and I always say I ...

NEX5 - Noise in blue sky?
Hello David, Regarding the noise that Sony seems to always have in the blue sky even at low ISO, have you been able to tell if the new NEX cameras have better blue skies? It looks like Sony has caught up in overall noise at high ISO's in the APS-C category, but I'd be curious to know the results in ...

Re: My A900 Winter Desert Series of Images at dpreview
The Joshua Tree in the snow was at the western boundary of Death Valley, not too far from the National Park sign, just before you decend down into Owen's Valley. Not much hiking was needed for a lot of these shots, they were basically off the road or parking areas. I hope to go to Anza Borrego Deser...
