Re: Your dream Lens?

I want a really top notch macro lens - with very fast, accurate, non-hunting, silent auto-focussing down to 1:1 scale. 95% of my photography is macro, so I could live with a 100mm F2.8 macro as my sole lens, and use a compact when I needed to shoot landscapes. I see that the Sony 100mm macro has bee...

Re: The A450 is there ... :-)

 I think Sony are losing the plot ! There, I've said it. Personally, I think we are LOSING THE MIND OF MINOLTA ... and being brainwashed by the SONY P&S crowd Who's with me on this? Good grief! Couldn't agree more. I converted from Nikon to Minolta many years ago and never regretted ...

Re: A700 Owner Advice

7dayshop are selling Sony compatible batteries ( NP-FM500H ) for the a700 for a ridiculously cheap £9.99 at the moment. I bought half a dozen a month ago. I've carried out a test by fully charging one, and periodically putting it in the camera to check the level of charge. ( removing it from the cam...

Re: More terrible sky noise with A700

Hi Olaf Yes, DRO was somewhere between "+3" and "+5" for these shots at 200 ISO. I generally try to balance ambient and flash so that the background is about 2 stops underexposed, but in many of these shots the difference was greater because they were taken in the middle of a dar...

Re: More terrible sky noise with A700

I had a similar problem on my a700 but not with skies. I my case I had horrendous noise on dark out of focus backgrounds even at ISO 200 ! For some reason it only happened with shots taken with flash. At the time I has the creative style zone setting on "+2" to try to maximise highlight an...

Re: A700 both wheels gone crazy

I had this trouble in the summer. First the rear wheel kept overshooting in playback mode, then it gradually got worse until touching the wheel made the shutter speeds, apertures, ISO etc overshoot. I kept shooting in Program mode for a while so I didn't have to touch the wheels. Then after checking...

Re: Headsup Sony A700 £274 in-store clearance @ Currys UK

Hi David Thanks for your comments, I agree that Sony are unlikely to bring out the lens I want in the forseeable future, and also that Sigma will probably bring out an image stabilised, silent motor version of their excellent 105mm macro, probably sometime late next year. I'm sure they must have an ...

Re: Headsup Sony A700 £274 in-store clearance @ Currys UK

Hi Sony's built-in image stabilisation has proven in numerous tests to be at least as effective as optical image stabilisation in terms of the final result . However as someone who has used ( borrowed ) Canon and Nikon optically stabilised lenses ( and as an unbiased Sony a700 user ) I can as...

Re: Headsup Sony A700 £274 in-store clearance @ Currys UK

:D Oh Yippee !! This must surely be an indication that the Sony reps have advised them to get shot of them quickly because the extremely long overdue replacement is about to be released. I certainly hope so. I've been using my a700 for 2 years and it's an absolutely fantastic camera, really feels li...
