Re: NEX FF camera rumours on SAR
I'm confused. So let's say Sony releases a 24Mp FF short registration / cell phone UI camera OK, I get it, you don't like the Nex UI! You are not alone. It's not so bad, but I could give them recommendations for improvements..... (let's call it NEX-FF for the time being) with ILIS 28-70 native lens...

Re: NEX FF camera rumours on SAR
I'm confused. So let's say Sony releases a 24Mp FF short registration / cell phone UI camera (let's call it NEX-FF for the time being) with ILIS 28-70 native lens for $1999.99 What's the draw for people who don't know about or care about using non-native FF manual focus lenses? For a-mount users: Is...

Re: Handling rant...
In 2000 I was seriously looking to change from Minolta AF to anybody else's AF system. I only had 2 AF cameras (AF5000 and Maxxum XTsi (505si Super) and a couple of low price lenses (i.e. second hand). I liked my XTsi and had just come back from a trip to Italy where its light weight and excellent e...

Re: Experience using the Sigma macro ring flash on the NEX 7
Does anyone have experience using the Sigma macro ring flash (a-mount model) on the NEX 7? If so is it compatible? Thanks Tom I just bought a used NEX-7 to use with my Minolta manual focus macro equipment. My concern above was if Sony had changed any flash protocols that would make my Sigma macro r...

Re: David: SLTs have back focus "by design" ?
Given Sony is no longer making A200 is a proof it wasn't profitable. No one quits something if it's making a profit for them. In any case, this "would have" "should have" is a stupid debate. Sony has A37 now as a replacement for A200, and it's a superior camera than a200 anyway....

If that's not on the A99, I'll bet there will be a lot of disappointed people.bfitzgerald wrote:

Re: End of the road for the 580?
The A350 started it..poor OVF for fast AF live view, since Sony brought these models out I felt they would eventually move away from OVF's (the OVF is terrible on these models any company prepared to compromise a VF that much would def abandon it) The main thing the A350 and other entry level QLV c...

Re: I want a pocket NEX
I saw that rumour as well and wondered about what was going on. My first thought was simply that since the NEX cameras were such a success for Sony and the clamour was for more NEX lenses, why on earth waste time on such a model instead of getting that pancake zoom out as an E-mount fit. Good quest...

Re: Myth busting the Ratio flash debate
I can't say I noticed the built in flash adding to the exposure on the 5d, but maybe it's something that does not show up for most everyday scenarios. Minolta at the time were ahead of the game with the wireless flash, albeit with some limitations at the time (ie no HSS, added later) The problem wa...

That is what I have read way back when.Magnar Fjortoft wrote:The Sony 500 mm mirror lens can autofocus since the optical system is f:6.3 or something like this. The obstruction caused by the secondary mirror makes this a T:8 system, not f:8. This should be old Minolta info, I think.

Re: Myth busting the Ratio flash debate
I've also noticed many more complaints about the pop-up flash trigger contributing to the exposure than I did with the older cameras. Then it was usually a complaint about a second highlight on a reflective surface or when shooting close up. But recently on dpreview and dyxum there are discussions o...

Re: Myth busting the Ratio flash debate
Before the Maxxum/Dynax 7, Minolta had "Old Fashioned" wireless that they introduced with the xi series cameras. "OF" wireless is limited to 1/60 sec shutter speed (and I think 1/45 in ratio mode on older cameras, but 1/60 on the Maxxum 7). The Maxxum 7 can also use "new&quo...

Re: TTL metering
There are a couple of concerns with bouncing off of a ceiling. One, as you noted, is distance. Another is color of the ceiling, since the bounced lighting will take on that color. I'm not familiar with Lite Scoop; I use a Lumiquest Pocket bouncer or a Lumiquest 80/20 (ceiling bounce/lumiquest bounce...

Re: Corel bought out Bibble
I think this is a bad move for Bibble. Among PC folks Corel and not well liked and they pretty much stuffed up paint shop pro (which had a lot of potential) loading it with DRM measure, making it bloated and slow and basically ruining the software. I've used PSP since version 7 (Jasc). No doubt Cor...
