Re: Need Advice on Choosing a Lens for my a65

Tamron 17-50 gets my vote. It's a great budget lens. It's pretty much permanently attached to the A57.

Re: Jessops to go into administration?

It was a shock to see the shops closed so soon. I was hoping they would be clearing stock at cheaper prices for a few days ;-) Now there are NO camera shops near me, so I'll have to rely on Currys/PC World to feel a camera before ordering on-line. But there is nowhere for me to examine lenses and ac...

Re: Really?

Welcome. There is a 'rival' Sony Alpha forum, too, which may attract some people, with it's slicker facade and less technical, but no less informative angle.

I visit both forums. There is always something to learn from both.

Re: after all these long years of buying cameras and as soon

In what ways is the A580 a utopian camera? If you need to ask the question, you would not understand the answer Yeah, that's a useful answer. I do still own the A580; despite trying to sell it, no one wants to buy it Seems to me that nobody wants a bite of Utopia... Perhaps your reply is more about ...

Re: SLT A57 question

The A57 is magnificent camera. I find it generally takes superb pictured even when in Auto mode. The 12fps shooting is incredible.

But the esoteric error messages - terrible!

Re: Canon users discuss SLT-A77

alphaomega, would you highly recommend the Nex?

I am selling my A580 as I much prefer the A57. Viewfinders I rarely use as I find the Sony OVFs are not suited to my bespectacled eyes (compared with Nikon and Canon). I could be tempted by a Nex, but which one...?

Have a look at this article: http://thesybersite.com/sony/a55/index.htm. The final quarter of the feature takes a closer look at the mirror.

Perhaps of more interest would be this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU5TqeoqRnQ.

Re: DPR say A57 RAW images are best in class?

For me, it's not the size of the OVF per se , but the eye cup. A poorly designed cup on the Sony A230 and A580 means I can't see the whole area. On the Nikon 3100 I can, and the cup on the A57 is better still. Video... I believe that when entering video mode, the Sony's crop factor increases from 1....

Re: DPR say A57 RAW images are best in class?

I love the EVF on the A57. My experience with OVF is mixed, probably due to the model of DSLRs I've used. - On the A230 the OVF was far too small, and and I found it very difficult to frame accurately. - On the A580 it was better in as much as I could frame more accurately, but it was still not as g...

Re: Do you believe in UFO?

UFO=Unidentified Flying Objects. I believe there are many such UFOs and have have seen them with my own eyes.

UFOs as spaceships ferrying extra-terrestrial lifeforms through space... no, I do not believe. I have seen no convincing evidence to sway me.

Re: Want to try a small studio set up

I have a flash adapter like that. Be aware that such adapters do not allow TTL metering. And I've red that some of the cheaper ones sometimes jam on the Sony hot shoe and are extremely difficult to remove. When I bought one of those wonderful Yongnuo speedlights, I also bought a cheap adapter, and I...

Re: A complete rig based on Alpha 77

I have watched the video - it's clear how effective this trick it; I was amazed and set out to find an equivalent tool for Android. For anyone who is interested, there is a free app available from Google Play named True Tone that will generate 4 different types of tone (sine, square, sawtooth and tr...

Re: A complete rig based on Alpha 77

Thank you, David. It's a shame Sony can't do it the proper way by including manual audio control. Nevertheless, the sound is pretty good on the A57 via the Rode. I think I could live with the auto gain, but in an ideal world I would have more control. Time to invest in a cheap MP3 layer to produce t...
