Re: Anyone had an A700 converted for IR?

There's a thread over at Dyxum where people record their results with lenses for IR. From my own experience: No hot spots with IR filter on A100 and A700: Sony 18-70 Minolta 24-105 Minolta 35-70 Hot spots with IR filter on A100 and A700: Tamron 17-50 No hotspots with IR filter on A700 Sony 16-80 (s...

Re: Anyone had an A700 converted for IR?

Thanks Bob

I have seen excellent IR images taken with both the XPro1 and an old Nikon D100 converted to IR and both were exhibition quality but then both photographers are rather more expert at post processing than I am or will ever be!! I suspect that is the answer with digital IR.

Re: Anyone had an A700 converted for IR?

I would also be interested in IR conversion for my A700. It is still lurking in my cupboard since getting the A77 a year ago now. I use a Hoya IR filter on my Fuji X pro1 and that does quite a nice job after converting to monochrome using Silver Efex Pro 2. No hotspots but Ido see a diffused and sub...

Re: New Sony FF announced

The a900 replacement will come when it's ready and it will be eagerly checked out by myself when it does. In the meantime my A900 at over four years old is doing stirling service together with the A77 which I use mainly for wildlife. Just returned from three weeks in South Africa where I toted both ...

Re: A900 and the future - some questions...

David I use the 70-400G extensively, for a large heavy lens it is remarkably quick to focus. However for panning moving subjects, I do usually turn off the "steady shot", ensuring that I switch it back on again for static shots. I also agree with an earlier post that the A77's EVF needs it...

Re: A900 and the future - some questions...

I imagine that many of us are in a similar position and will need to make similar decisions. Fortunately, I do have the A77, which I bought as a back up for my three year old A900. Suffice to say that the A900 is now the back up to my A77.....a complete reversal! When the A99 is introduced,(next yea...

New FF Sony NEX(t) year?

Is this the shape of a new full frame Sony camera for launch next year? If so this might be of interest to some but not to many others I suspect.

Re: a77 image quality advice, how do I get the best from it?

I can totally understand the frustration with the A77 or A700 for serious landscape work. Frankly, it is not lenses that are the problem for not resolving fine detail with the APS-C cameras but the sensor. It is an area of photography where the large format camera wins handsomely. Medium format also...

David

Can you advise anywhere in the UK that offer a removal service of the AA filter for the A900? I know that there is a company in the US that will do it. I might consider this with my A900 after I have bought the A99 next year!

Re: a77 image quality advice, how do I get the best from it?

David I know the problem with reference to air travel hand baggage weight restrictions. So far after three years of flying around the world to various out of the way destinations, often using small singe engined aircraft in Africa for example, I have managed to pack my A900, A700 bodies and several ...

Re: A77 Ver 1.04

I have also done the update. The A77 just seems a bit "snappier" all round than it did. It is certainly quicker to start up and I thought that the High ISO images are a bit cleaner too. I can't see much difference in the colours but then I never use AWB.

Re: Getting used to a77

Ossie Fantastic coincidence, I really fell for the A77 in India and wish I had the 16-80 ZA with me as the 16-50mm was just too short for what I needed. Tell me, which end does the 16-80 vignette? I am guessing the wide end if so at what FL does the vignetting stop? Isn't India a fascinating place? ...

Re: Getting used to a77

I agree with Doc's provisional assessment after using my A77 for 10 days in India. It does indeed take 5 seconds to switch off fully so don't be in any hurry to remove the memory card or lens! The camera is a delight to use and I am learning to really like the EVF viewfinder and I never thought that...

Re: Trade A900 for A77?

Well for what it's worth if I can give my opinion and I am an avid user of both the A900 and A700 with now the A77 taking over from the A700. The A77 is streets ahead of the A900 in most actual shooting situations whether it is flash, artificial light or whatever. But there is a very big but and tha...
