Re: Fast AF Telephoto lens suggestions?
Really sorry to hear this. I never had any issues with mine in the 8 or so years I owned it, and it was second hand when I bought it. I seem to remember that there was some discussion about the HS version being too highly geared for the later film bodies and the digital bodies as it was designed at ...

Re: Fast AF Telephoto lens suggestions?
While I was still invested in Minolta/Sony A mount I had an 80-200 f2.8 and it was a corker, one of the few lenses I really miss. I bought the Sony 70-200 SSM, thinking it would be an improvement focus wis, thoroughly testing it at all the most used focal lengths and apertures and it was no where ne...

Re: Exhibit your B&W shots
Thanks for your concern guys - Looe has suffered much less then many other coastal towns here in the southwest - and most businesses are well aware that spring tides can result in flooding, so they take what precautions they can, but many have been inundated with water yet again. We haven't suffered...

Sounds like the card reader may not be compatable with higher capacity cards - a problem I had with an inbuilt reader several years ago and which and which was only cured by installing new drives. Might be worth checking the manufacturer's website.

Re: SLT light show
My experience of the 70-400 on the A900 was always the same as yours David - get the focus right and it's sharp from corner to corner even at f5.6 and 400mm. I cannot remember ever having noticed a 'halo' effect on in focus subjects in a variety of lighting scenes. This is the lens/camera combinatio...

I'll 2nd that vote for Metz!

Re: Christmas sales
Barry said
And I would say the chances of finding an A99 is a real shop is not that good either.
Strangly enough our local Jessops DOES have an A99 in the cabinet for people to try out - no lenses to speak of to put on it though! This is the most expensive body they have in store, by ...

Re: New Sony lenses and 70-400mm G
The lens I most miss having now switched to Nikon is the 70-400mm. It was a super piece of kit, great on FF and spectacular on APSC, and the Nikon 80-400 isn't a patch on it. Would assume that any upgrade to it is not for optical reasons.......

Re: The Nightmare is over!
Barry, 6 months after getting my D800, following decades of Minolta/Sony use, I am still trying to fathom out the best AF mode to use in any particular situation - there are just too many options in comparison with off/on single/on continuious of Minolta/Sony..... As Pako says, give it a week or two...

Yes, mostly wideangle work, some at very close range. Macro for invertebrates is important too

Re: RX100 autofocus
Thank's Pako. Shutter lag is a huge problem, particularly with fish turning round between framing and shutter actuation, resulting in some wonderful pictures of rear ends! I don't do much really close up work and AF speed and focus lock isn't particularly good with my current setup. Thanks for the i...

RX100 autofocus
A question for all you nice new shiny RX100 owners out there: how fast/accurate is the autofocus on the RX100? I am considering getting one with an underwater housing for use when diving but am concerned that the autofocus might not be up the job. Any experiences of tracking moving subjects and focu...

Re: New camera woes continued!
Agree completely, Barry, its a great flash. I bought one 2nd hand recently (ex demo actually) and now have no desire to get Nikon's SB910 unit. Would recommend the Metz to anyone.
