Re: Future of A mount

I was in a store here in Hiroshima this morning and they had the A77II for sale. I see it at pretty much all the camera stores in Japan. It certainly doesn't appear to be discontinued yet. I am not even sure what discontinued means with regards to a camera. Don't they usually build a big batch and t...

Re: SAR: A77 update coming, no A65 update

Come back in a few years time and add the makers who bailed out of the camera industry. I'd wager one of those will be micro 4/3 based. I can't see Panasonic lasting long term Nothing lasts forever and only fools think so. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if someday Panasonic or Olympus or both leave the...

Re: SAR: A77 update coming, no A65 update

Barry, with all your ideas about how a camera company should be run have you ever considered using Kickstarter to get some funding to start your own? Design cameras the proper way, sell them for great prices, wonderfully reliable gear, have the proper sterling support, regular meaningful updates to...

Sony has also come out with the A99II a few months ago.

I think the people who were saying several months ago that the A77II was discontinued may have been wrong. I still see them in stores in Japan.

How Much Exposure Error Can Be Made With The Fuji X-T2 And The Olympus E-M1 Mark II And Still Have A Usable Image?

This photographer uses the Fuji X-T2 and Olympus E-M1 II. I stumbled across his blog recently. From what I have read in some of his articles he prefers the user experience with separate, traditional mechanical control knobs of the Fuji, but uses the Olympus for situations where it's performance and ...

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report

It's not about not understanding digital ISO (you can use various methods as I did read) it's about the cameras being tested with a level playing field and real world use too. I'm sure if I got an Olympus I would find the ISO is being over stated to conclude that properly I'd use an adapter and fit...

I finally was able to contact David by sending him an email. The PM function on this forum seems to be broken. He replied and said he had fixed the attachment problem. Thanks, David!

Re: Visiting the past in Virginia (Olympus/Panasonic m4/3 gear)

Last week I bought an Olympus 75-300mm f4.8-6.7 II lens. It is quite compact. I had sort of thought about getting one for the last 5 years, but the truth is I rarely have a use for a 150-600mm (in FF terms) lens. The price is so attractive for them here in Japan though compared to the much higher pr...

Error attaching photo to post

I am trying to make a post with a photo attachment. The jpeg photo is 800x707 pixels, 100kb, but I get an error when I try to attach it. There is a yellow exclamation mark and when I click on it I get the message: Error Could not upload attachment to ./files/762_c08439df4613e3cf9b2af71e5382ff8b. I m...

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report

ISO is ISO in the real world be it emulsion or sensor ISO Exactly. Sony, Olympus, etc. do it right. ISO is ISO. They meter and expose properly for the light and ISO. They match each other or a handheld meter. Fuji seems to be doing something strange though since their ISO does not match. Anyway, if...

Re: Sony Alpha A99 Field Test Report

DxO have not tested the Fuji X cameras or sensors as far as I can see no idea why that is. They are reporting Olympus are overstating ISO in excess of a stop. I don't hang on every word DxO say but there must be a reason for that difference. They are also suggesting the A99II and A99 is a stop off ...

Re: DxO: Sony A900 vs Olympus E-M10II

The only area that might bother me is the ISO ratings which are evidently way off over a stop from the stated ones. Most cameras deviate some a fair bit I've rarely seem one exceed the 1 stop mark in all but one case. The Fuji X cameras I tried were a good stop off the A77 so I shot ISO 3200 on the...
