Re: My haitus

Thank you. In fact, I credit Huyana Picchu hike for helping me emotionally snap out of my depression. I was ready to quit (having decided many times in previous months to cancel the trip - thankfully, missus did not quit). Even 10 min before our scheduled hike I was debating if I should take the hi...

Re: Mr Brunel will see you now, Ma'am...

It's obviously a case of cultural differences... Every British photographer over 40 knows of Zeniths, and half used them, often their first camera. Imported here in the UK by Technical and Optical Equipment. They achieved soem sort of bottom-market dominance here, with an SLR for well under £30, in...

Re: Mr Brunel will see you now, Ma'am...

I can't tell which camera brand that is, but if you say it is a Zenith then maybe so. I never even knew Zenith made SLRs. Mostly I remember them from TVs and radios. Also, notice that the camera has been reversed left to right. I can't imagine that even a Zenith camera would be like that so they scr...

Re: Is The Digital Tele-Converter Feature Worthwhile?

I discovered something else today. Not unexpected, but good to know in any case. Olympus meters using the zoomed in DTC portion, not the whole frame. The one advantage of DTC. The disadvantage being that you don't get to play around with cropping formats, or different development algorithms outside...

Re: GAS is back - Sony FE 100 STF

Or how about this old, unique, very interesting 1975 Minolta lens? :) Minolta MC Rokkor-X 40-80mm f/2.8 https://outfor30.com/2017/08/13/a-forgotten-solution/ I remember this lens from articles and advertisements back in the 1970s. I saw one at a used camera shop in Tokyo back in the 1990s. By the wa...

Turtle taken at 1200mm. Well, not exactly 1200mm. :) I was at 600mm-efl and used the 2x digital tele-converter to get a pseudo 1200mm-efl as I wrote about here: http://www.photoclubalpha.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9020 http://www.bakubo.com/Galleries%202/Japan/Japan%2021/slides/OLYC8165.jpg

Re: New Olympus E-M1 body for 4/3 and m4/3 lenses

Here are 2 interesting, detailed articles by a serious bird photographer (including BIF). After many years of using Canon he last year switched from his Canon 1DX MK II, Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM, etc. to an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II, Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm f/4 IS PRO, etc. The Ultimat...

Minolta logo in Japan

I saw this yesterday outside a business center in Japan. I guess they use KM copy machines, etc. inside. Many may remember that before Konica Minolta used that logo it was the one Minolta used. I think Minolta started using it in 1981. Gave me a bit of a nostalgic feeling when I saw it. :) OLYC8187....

Re: Tiny sensor revenge gallery thread!

This happens with most forums, not just photo forums. People for communication go to a social networks. There is much more participants. It is more and more easy to publish photo videos etc. For example, the same photos that I posted and the commentary to them is read in scanned in social networks ...

Oh boy, that is a lot of misfortune recently. I am very glad the health problem has turned out to not be as serious as it seemed in the beginning. And that is great that you have found a new job! Best of luck!

Re: Sony announces new A9 in New York....

I was at Bic Camera today in Japan (been awhile since I stopped in to a camera store) and they had an A9 sitting out with 24-70mm f2.8 attached and no one looking at it. I played with it awhile and took a couple of photos. No one posts on this forum anymore though so I won't go to the trouble of wri...

Perfect timing Henry. I am sure that girl just realized that she "posed" for the camera. Nice candid. Thanks, Sury. Sadly this discussion forum seems to be pretty much dead. I imagine David is trying to figure out if it is worth it for him to keep paying to have it. :( I guess one of thes...

Re: Naval Academy for the 4th

Tamron 150-600mm How are you liking your 150-600mm on the A99? These very long lenses are sort of special purpose, but a few months ago I bought an m4/3 Olympus 75-300mm (150-600mm FF equivalent) and have been having fun using it. I posted about it a few months ago: http://www.photoclubalpha.com/fo...
