Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

I have the latest LR Classic CC 8.1 now. I have never used the face detection (People) function after all these years of using LR. I decided to give it a try so I let it start scanning through my 105k catalog. It has been going full tilt for 76 hours and it says it has done 82%. All 4 cores of my i...

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

I agree about darktable. They have all the stuff in it and way more, but the UI could use a bit of work and mainly they need to start using names and controls that make sense to photographers. Too much technical stuff exposed and too many confusing ways to accomplish the same thing. As I said before...

Re: Tiny sensor revenge gallery thread!

I am glad people are still taking photos with their tiny sensor cameras! I got a 1" Sony RX100 (sensor is too big for this thread) a few months ago so recently I have not used my Canon S95 or Canon G16. I might have a smartphone photo or two that might be worth posting here though. I will have ...

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

I saw this posted today.

darktable 2.6.0rc0 released

https://www.darktable.org/2018/12/darktable-260rc0-released/

This is labeled as release candidate 0 so more will be coming until the final 2.6.0. It says there is an updated manual coming too.

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

I have not tried ON1, but they seem to be making steady progress. I have heard that early adopters were often unhappy, but I have also heard that they have continuously updated it, fixed bugs, and added new features. I see today that they have a new major version out. ON1 Photo RAW 2019 arrives with...

Re: What am I missing? millennial photography...

Saw this today. Photo of John Lennon by Andy Warhol http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2018/10/photo-of-john-lennon.html There is a lot of poetic artspeak analysis of why the photo is so excellent in the blog post. When I see photos such as this which, in my opinion, de...

Re: Ordered an RX100

I will note that from the times I have handled the RX100 the biggest ergonomic negative for me is the clickless dial around the lens. I sure don't like that. Canon uses a dial with clicks. Since I always have the front dial set to EC a click dial is much nicer. I can get by with the clickless dial ...

Re: What am I missing? millennial photography...

I see that your post has 118 views so far and no one responded. I have posted things that had 400, 500, 1000 views without a single response. The forum here is mostly dead. Not because no one comes here though. Hundreds of people come here, read stuff, but they never contribute anything. Unfortunate...

Re: Ordered an RX100

Henry! I can not believe you did not take any pictures with the new camera. :) You have nerves of steel ... Just tell us about the camera. Where is the photo? :) Here is one from a few days ago. :) Taken as a jpeg, not raw. I think I have taken only about 50 photos with the camera so far. Since it ...

Re: Blurb B&W photo books

Just an fyi. Here is something from someone who has been using Blurb for photos books for quite awhile: The Blurb Experience http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2015/03/the-blurb-experience.html This was written in 2015. If anything, I think Blurb has gotten a bit better.

Re: Why it's time to move away from Lightroom

I found that darktable is very powerful and flexible, but I am still using LR Classic CC. I still prefer LR by far. With darktable there are just so many ways to do similar things, lots of controls, and many options. But, it takes a lot of dedication to learn it well. You can see how it is clearly w...

Re: KM5D sensor failure?

I do not know what the problem is, but you have to admit you have got a lot of use out of your KM 5D. It came out over 13 years ago. In the digital age that seems like ancient history. I hate for stuff I still like to have problems, but after more than a dozen years it might just be time to accept t...
