Re: A77 versus Full frame

As for the A700 (you didn't make any further mention) I'd have offloaded that if the mirror slap is that bad, the camera isn't fit for purpose if 2 sec MLU won't provide sharp images tripod mounted. When using very long focal lengths I have found mirror vibration to be a real world problem. The wor...

Re: A77 versus Full frame

So what I did was attempt some eyepiece projection into a short focus lens on the camera and that did work, boy did that work, I had the scope on the upper part of a telegraph pole down the street and through the 12mm Nagler eyepiece with the eye one could see the distant wooden pole and the rough ...

Re: A77 versus Full frame

You don't suppose Magnar could have been shaking the A700 tripod to get his result, do you? :D The goal of running my own tests is learn my cameras and lenses to know, so that I can get the most out of the gear. If I find the results of general interest, I might post some examples and a text that e...

Re: A77 versus Full frame

I've never seen anything like it being honest. Unless he was shaking the tripod I can get 1:1 macros on a tatty tripod and MLU tack sharp. BTW I have to point out our friend was the one who said the A550 didn't need MLU  I'm not buying this one sorry folks.. Sure your macro photos look sha...

Re: A77 versus Full frame

When talking about noise I found the difference between these cameras neglible, with just a bit more visible noise from the A77 at ISO 3200 and 6400 (I don't shoot at higher ISO settings). For my real world work the difference doesn't matter sincethe visual impression of my photographs are not affe...

Re: Sony quality control problems

In my family the Sony system camera statistic is: 3x A100, 3x A700, 1x A500, 2x A550, 1x A580, 2x A900, 2x A55 and 2x A77. There have been no problems with the cameras, except one A700 rear control wheel (drowned in heavy rain). The A100 cameras are still in use and take a lot of abuse from young ph...

Re: Nikon D800, Canon new lenses etc

The Sony 500 mm mirror lens can autofocus since the optical system is f:6.3 or something like this. The obstruction caused by the secondary mirror makes this a T:8 system, not f:8. This should be old Minolta info, I think.

Re: Nord's new viewfinder!

Magnar! Have you not been on DPReview? You know you cannot shoot BIF with an A77 now don't you? Your'e 77 's must be faulty Sir! Dpreview is about too high expectations, not real world photography! :-) There are many stories, or should we say urban legends, about the limitations of the A77. I...

Re: Nord's new viewfinder!

The morning twilight time is 'dawn', not 'dusk'. So I've shiveringly imagined that 'from dusk till midday' in winter Norway - brrrr!!! Lol! Now I see! I should know the difference between dawn and dusk ... but like am and pm, I sometimes just swich them! Thanks! I have now corrected this in my init...

Re: Nord's new viewfinder!

... I was shooting eagles from dusk to the middle of the day. So you mean you were shooting them during all the evening dark, all through the night, and up until the sunrise, and then some more? That's quite a party you've been having there! LOL! It was just one day ... from 0600 to 1600. Too...

Re: Nord's new viewfinder!

After using the A55 for a while I was really waiting for a new EVF, but not so much after I got my A77 cameras. Last weekend I was shooting eagles from dawn to the middle of the day. The EVF performed very well, also when shooting 8 fps and when panning flying birds. I used the old Minolta APO G 400...

Re: A77 fun...

Got any daylight yet??? I'm trying to get money in place to try out an A77 ... again, your posts here and over at DP, are making want to try again with it, I still feel the A850/900 files are nicer, more Malleable than the A77, they don't get ragged as quick, more tolerant of my naff exposure/PP te...
