Re: A mount s/h lens prices have "bombed"

I heard a few negative comments (more bitching perhaps) re the 70-400G Mk1 but mine was superb. I pre-ordered it just after it was launched and got one of the first in the UK. Never regretted it for a second. My copy was excellent. It was a fair improvement in IQ over the 70-300G. It was heavy, buil...

Re: Sony a77iii rumor

Sad to hear that if that turns out to be reality. When I transitioned from Minolta to Sony I had high hopes and their 70-400G was a stonking lens on both the A77 and A99, better than the equivalent Nikon or Canon product. Even against the competitions Mk2 lenses the Sony Mk1 just about held its grou...

Re: Sony a77iii rumor

I was sad to leave Sony but they just dumped the A mount and left me no option but to defect. Like you I don't like the E mount bodies nor the eye watering glass prices.
I still have a A77mk2 which the wife uses occasionally with a Tamron 16-300 which is a good travel combo.

Re: A mount s/h lens prices have "bombed"

I used the 70-300G and it was decent but not great. It was better to handle than the 70-400 but the IQ wasn't as good.
The 80-200 always got good reports.

Re: Another big closet clearout

Glad to hear it's all working fine and actually getting used after sitting in a cupboard for 9 months. Yes I found the old lenses worked well with it.
Happy new year to you too.

...and they wonder why people like me give up and defect to the dark side....

I see the prices of the E mount stuff and it's quite scary. Not a system I am interested in but some nice features.

Re: A mount s/h lens prices have "bombed"

As you can see from my for sale post, quite a few of my lenses were secondhand. All were reasonably priced at the time but yes I can see recently they are worth less than I would otherwise expect. A great time to experiment then :) In my A mount era, I bought the following (Minolta, KM or Sony) seco...

Re: Another big closet clearout

A big thank you to Barry for a very quick transaction and the extra payment over and above the agreed price for the A99 and 28-105. A true gentleman.
A very Merry Christmas to you all.

Re: Another big closet clearout

Hi Barry, The wheels turn but are stiffer than they should be. They still operate the selected action such as aperture and shutter speed. To be honest, I haven't used it since I put the post on. I kept the 17-35 for extra wide shots but have since acquired a Nikon 10-20 which was a bargain at £190 n...

Another big closet clearout

I'm offloading most of my full frame kit so have a few items for sale. No photos as yet but if anyone is interested in any particular item please let me know and I'll sort some images. Konica Minolta 17-35mm f2.8-4 in very good condition with clean glass, no dust or mould. Bought secondhand (from DK...

SOLD SOLD - Sony 100 f2.8 A-mount (UK only please)

It sold for £269 on eBay. There is still a decent market for A mount glass. I'm cleaning out the cupboards again and came across the Sony 100 f2.8 macro I bought secondhand from LCE some 5 years ago. I doubt it's been on the camera more than 5 times and is in mint condition complete with caps, hood,...

Re: AfterShot Pro and Lightroom

I know a lot of people are relying on cloud based storage but I'm not a fan. Our broadband is poor and I can't even get a mobile phone signal at my house let alone 3G or 4G so for me, relying on good data transfer speeds for hundreds if not thousands of files just does not interest me. Wonderful for...

Re: Bought a Dell U2415 monitor

Just discovered that it's a U2515. I have the monitor plugged into the laptop HDMI port. As far as I can remember I just right click the desktop and pick Display Settings. I set screen 1 as the laptop and 2 as the monitor. Might have clicked a few things but I just fiddled till I got what I wanted, ...

Re: Bought a Dell U2415 monitor

Think that's the same model I bought. I'm very happy with it. I use it dual screen with the laptop so I can view the photo folders on the laptop and LR on the monitor.

Re: Over warm pictures

Overall, I liked the Sony images other than being a little flat and found the raw files easy to adjust to my liking. The Nikon ones are sometimes more difficult to edit especially in overcast conditions.
To simulate Sony colours I usually need to warm up a bit.
