Race Track

I am prepping for a possible shoot of a lifetime and for that I have to see what the a77ii can do video wise. Fast objects with minimal shake is the task. There is a drag race track not far from my home and I thought it might be a place to give it a go. Well, the video testing was less than optimal ...

Re: Flowers 2019 - Your Flower and Garden Shots

1 and 3 are to my taste with 3 being a real winner. I have never used flash and fear I would fail completely if I tried. Is that a rationale for preferring natural or just regular indoor lighting? Maybe. Still, I find the light to be overpowering in some of your images (1st in set one of this page a...

Re: Milky Way

Bingo. You may wish to incorporate light painting to accentuate foreground. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ko2IuhKDA9Q I know you like complexity and have a brain for it. I on the other hand do not. The shot I provided previously was a one off. I just happened to be in a location that had dark nigh...

Re: Milky Way

Your treatment of the milky way is improved. Shots of 95-100% sky don't do much for me as it ends up being wanna be deep space photography. https://www.pga.com/news/golf-buzz/best-jimmy-walker%E2%80%99s-space-photos-year So it seems you will need to deal with foreground objects and blend the two. Re: Flowers 2019 - Your Flower and Garden Shots

Sury, So many social engagements. So little time. Last ones. Taken with the 70-200mm at 200mm. Not sure of the difference in DOF between 135mm at f2.0 and 200mm @ f2.8. They look pretty similar. https://a4.pbase.com/g12/64/511964/2/169500825.7xNrlXuR.jpg https://a4.pbase.com/g12/64/511964/...

Closer is better in most things, except rattlesnakes.
Will test the 70-200mm tomorrow morning.

Re: Flowers 2019 - Your Flower and Garden Shots

As promised. The ZA 85mm. Disclaimer: holding camera with one hand, umbrella with the other. While it renders detail and color beautifully, I don't feel that I can get close enough to the subject (for the kind of images that I want to take). https://a4.pbase.com/g12/64/511964/2/169484152.v3SLeabp.jp...

Re: Flowers 2019 - Your Flower and Garden Shots

Sury is calling me out for discussing limitations of lenses that include the 100mm Macro. Of course, the minimum focus distance does not apply in the case of the 100mm. He is right, I chose my words poorly. The ZA 85mm won't let you get close enough for a tight composition. The 135mm gets you close ...

Morning light is better at my house than evening light.

Re: Flowers 2019 - Your Flower and Garden Shots

Caught the last rays of light tonight and decided on the Minolta 100mm Macro. Hand held and manual focus at iso 1600. https://a4.pbase.com/g12/64/511964/2/169480481.hZv31hJj.jpg https://a4.pbase.com/g12/64/511964/2/169480482.9j53jZ3P.jpg https://a4.pbase.com/g12/64/511964/2/169480485.tnOglXX5.jpg ht...

Re: Flowers 2019 - Your Flower and Garden Shots

I have used the ZA 85mm, the Minolta 100mm Macro, and the Sony 70-200mm G for flower photography. All with decent results. They all have limitations (as we all know) and it usually comes down to minimum focus distance. The 100mm can get you close but I rarely gravitate to that lens. Maybe I will giv...

Good stuff Sury. From our garden. Do I need to name the lens I used? https://a4.pbase.com/g12/64/511964/2/169474977.VI3b2hWH.jpg https://a4.pbase.com/g12/64/511964/2/169474978.SnQBAAne.jpg https://a4.pbase.com/g12/64/511964/2/169474979.TWPPKGaa.jpg https://a4.pbase.com/g12/64/511964/2/169474980.Iw4g...
