Re: Future of A mount

Yes the A99 II is very interesting but I suspect that an A77 III would be a bigger money spinner for Sony. Given that the A7 III would come out first then I can't see a new A77 model much before the end of 2017 though.

Re: Sabrina sells us a B&H projector

My first thoughts were the 1954 movie Sabrina with Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn and William Holden but of course Audrey was no Jane Mansfield. So perhaps the lawyers got involved and to stop the directors and investors involved in the movie suing them, they had to change the "look and feel&q...

Re: LA-EA2-like adapter for Canon, Nikon, Pentax, etc. lenses?

I am interested in where these "early reports" are coming from. It may be illuminating. Very few people outside of Sony have had any real access to either late pre-production or production cameras. This not some sort of oblique attack on Olympus as I think the about (perhaps) to be release...

Re: Cards on the table....

Even as a niche product the A mount probably needs 2 APS and 2 FF cameras. So perhaps using the new A99 II body with the sensor etc from the presumably forthcoming A7 III may make sense. I am in a bit of a quandry about A mount vs E mount - having the A7r and A7r II, I am perfectly set up for some y...

Re: A99 11

Barry, I could point out that Canon,Nikon and Pentax ( back from the FF crypt ) as the surviving SLR troika are hardly what you would consider to be at the leading edge for anything. I am personally not that interested in GPS or WiFi or NFS etc etc and etc. Just the camera doing what I thi...

Re: How wide is wide enough?

I do own the Tokina 11-16 and a Sony 16-35 which I do use wide at times, but to be honest many of my landscape work in the past was done using 28-70 or 24-85 lenses. OK the wider lenses are useful for some architectural photos and cityscapes especially in Old Towns but that is it for me. If I use my...

Re: Future of the 'E' mount CSC cameras

You do need to ask yourself about the likely sources of the rumours and the motivation behind them. Be they from self justifying fan boys to the well and truly bought and paid for "expert", and that is not to mention the mercenary click bait sites. In terms of price and added convenience t...

Re: "Brexit" hits prices hard on tech goods

I happen to agree with you Barry, it's just that so much doggie-doo has been told by so many people, many of them into just plain trouble making. And things have the potential to end badly for countries on both sides of the Channel. But then again you only have to look at what was done to the people...

Re: "Brexit" hits prices hard on tech goods

British / English freedom will in the medium and long term be good for most folk. The costs will probably fall more on the Reichsmark sorry Euro zone. Figures I have seen put the trade deficit with the rest of the EU at about GBP 85 billion a year and increasing at up to GBP 10 billion a year. And g...

Re: An Interesting Dilema For The Future

Different preferences, different solutions. Now I don't often go over 300mm let alone 600mm so it's a matter of choice, and I can't justify upgrading to say a Series 11 70 - 400 mm A mount or any FE similar lens that may become available. The quality of the Sony 1 inch sensor is acceptable to me espe...

Re: 24mp sensors and lens performance

Well 12 in focus is better than 42 not in focus. :D

When I was reading David's latest article I was sort of wondering who many of the usual suspects in DPR etc would use some of his photos go to prove the lens is only sharp in the middle with absolutely useless edges.

Re: 24mp sensors and lens performance

You often don't get a good impression of the actual picture quality from internet postings. But having looked at quite a lot of images that have drawn loud complaints about lenses or cameras, most seem to be photographer error or totally unreal expectations from on the run snapshots. Dull, sometimes...

Re: An Interesting Dilema For The Future

I have pared down the number of cameras to the Nikon D750, the Sony RX10 plus the A7r and A7r II. So basically to two kits depending on what I am doing. My chief "problem" is over the years I have accumulated a lot off glass that I have been reluctant to part with, but I know it would be s...

Re: An Interesting Dilema For The Future

Being an old school SLR type I think I might be having problems with the notion that a whole raft of traditional camera gear can be replaced by a single fixed lens camera.Even after having had the RX10 for some time. Probably possible in that I am definitely a low EI type of photographer. But I will...

An Interesting Dilema For The Future

I have the A mount 70-400 lens which I use mainly on one of my A77 cameras when I need to go longer. I was considering buying an A6300 if there is no higher end A mount APS camera in the offering. But now things have got somewhat muddled for me. Now I could buy the new E mount 70-300 zoom lens and s...
