Re: Polariser plus SLT - blotchy sky problem

Here's a quick-and-dirty blurring of David's Mono sky. I wasn't that careful with the selection lines and should have expanded it a bit, but like I said, quick-and-dirty.

Re: Polariser plus SLT - blotchy sky problem

I should add I left out some steps. Looking at the Vimeo video reminded me of what you are referring to about blurring the whole image. I've done it a couple of different ways. One is to open the image and then duplicate it to make a copy and then in the copy I select the sky and then cut the invers...

Re: Polariser plus SLT - blotchy sky problem

Ed I thought Gaussian blur would soften the whole image but I see there is a technique for using it for gradient smoothing in this discussion, http://slodive.com/photoshop/how-to-correct-banding-in-your-gradients-using-photoshop it got a bit involved for my three working brain cells, this next tuto...

Re: Polariser plus SLT - blotchy sky problem

Ed if you want too see something horrible just get the crop with the tank still in it and do nothing else but boost the saturation +10 or even +15 i.e. not much and watch what happens. (I’ve already done it) Greg Greg, you are right. Here's one from the NEX7 I did a little differently. At f...

Re: Polariser plus SLT - blotchy sky problem

What I've tended to do in the past with blotchy skies, and in particular grainy skies from film scans, is to put the sky on a separate layer and give it a good dose of gaussian blur and ended up with the smoothest skies you could ever ask for. An example from a 35mm slide taken with the X700. The f...

Re: Rainy RX100 macro

Heads up! Just packaged up the RX100 for the return trip to Amazon. The lower leaf of the lens cover would no longer close leaving the lens half exposed when shut down. They're going to replace it. Fortunately, my wife's RX100 arrives on Friday so I won't have to be without one for too long. (She do...

Re: Polariser plus SLT - blotchy sky problem

Here's one from the raw of the same shot and crop above from over the tank. I didn't match the colors exactly to the jpg. It may be a bit less here, but I think I still see it. Am I just gone bats seeing things now?

Re: Polariser plus SLT - blotchy sky problem

Yeah, I think I'm seeing evidence of this with the A65. I live in southern California about 3 hours south of the Sierras and when I saw the thread I had to go digging arounnd to see if I could find anything that matched the circumstances. This shot is from high up in our local mountains and I was us...

Re: My RX100 first report - review now up

It has been a constant companion, that's the only issue - I use it far more than I would any other camera. And that's exactly what happens with my S100. I use it far more than my Nex-7 or A65 because it's with me wherever I go. But the RX100 arrived yesterday and for what little I have used it so f...

Re: RX100 is better than a77 :)

Since there are no other 20 megapixel cameras to fake the metadata, I doubt ACR/LR would do much good as it would not have any the right info to work with. David I actually only used it on one file and it seemed fine, but then two days later Adobe released an ACR that supported it, so that was the ...

Re: RX100 is better than a77 :)

Back when I went from the S95 to the S100 and the S100 raw wasn't supported in ACR yet, I downloaded a metadata editor and changed the "S95" designation to "S100" in the .CR2 raw file and it opened fine in ACR. I wonder if you could do that with a .ARW and lie to ACR and tell it ...

Re: RX100 is better than a77 :)

I'm envious! Mine is still a month away. Can't wait to hear your "personal slants," I mean review, on the Rx100. (I read the DPR thread :D ) Ed Edit update: Well, just received an email update. Instead of a month away, it's now a iittle over a week away. I won't have to be envious for so l...
