Re: Signed up awhile ago, but didn't introduce myself

Just for fun, here is a photo of the Mamiya/Sekor 1000 DTL: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c143/hrich12/MamiyaSekor_1000-DTL.jpg Of course, this camera was all manual: manual focus and manual exposure. It did have a cds ttl light meter, but with stop-down metering. Unusual for the time, it had bo...

Re: Banning on DPReview.

By the way, my post above about the advantages of the dpreview forum software was in response to something David had written somewhere, I thought in this thread but now I think it was elsewhere, about how he wished that the phpbb3 software could be configured/changed to be more like the dpreview for...

Re: Does Sony IDC 2 sharpen even when set to 0?

Thanks, David. How about for PS/ACR? Should I set sharpening to 0 or leave the default of 25? Is the 25 also just capture sharpening?

Signed up awhile ago, but didn't introduce myself

I signed up to the forum here some time ago, but I failed to introduce myself. I have had a strong interest in photography since 1970 when I was in junior high school. I used a couple of simple cameras until I finally bought my first 35mm SLR in 1973, a Mamiya/Sekor 1000 DTL with 55mm f1.8 lens. I h...

Re: Does Sony IDC 2 sharpen even when set to 0?

I'm not sure whether IDC2 sharpens at 0, but you will need to upsize the camera file in order to meet Alamy's file size critera. Yes, I know I need to resize to 48mb. I do that in PS using bicubic smoother. Photoshop does this really well in Camera Raw, but as IDC2 does not offer this option you'll...

Re: CF cards for A700.

Yes, I know that the EeePC is available with WinXP. I think I would prefer Linux though since it has a smaller footprint, uses less resources, and starts up/shutsdown much faster. For this type of very small pc with limited memory, not so fast cpu, and the way I would probably use it those things ar...

Re: Explaining my commercial attitude to dPreview

After all these years I have yet to see or hear of Phil complaining about or going after someone for linking to dpreview.com from some other website so I assume he doesn't mind links. It is hypocritical for him to get worked up about your occasional link to an article on your website, especially aft...

Does Sony IDC 2 sharpen even when set to 0?

I have decided that I might as well submit a few photos to Alamy and see if they accept them. I also am not sure if I have the type of photos that they might be interested in. On the Alamy website they make a point of saying that during the file preparation that no sharpening should be used at any s...

Re: Banning on DPReview.

Yes, I agree that dpreview has the best forum software design I have seen. I am fairly sure they wrote their own. The software that this forum, dyxum, and many other internet forums use is not as good in a few important ways. The photo.net forum software, I believe, was written by Philip Greenspun s...

Re: CF cards for A700.

I am thinking about getting an eee pc for travel. Mostly so I can use it for internet access. These days, more and more, I can find wifi. In Thailand earlier this year I stayed at a few guesthouses that had it and I was traveling in Mexico during the spring and also found wifi sometimes. David, with...

Re: CF cards for A700.

For shooting closer to home my several 1gb cards are fine. I also have a 4gb card. But, when I go off for weeks with my backpack to travel it is going to be nice not to need to carry a psd anymore. Actually, on my last trip traveling in Mexico about 3 months ago with the A700 my psd barfed when I tr...

Re: CF cards for A700.

Yes, I am a bit concerned about reliability too, but then I started thinking that in a couple of years everyone will say it is safer to use old reliable 16gb cards instead of those 32gb, 48gb, and 64gb cards. :-) I remember not long ago when many people were saying don't use 1gb cards and to use saf...

Re: CF cards for A700.

I have been using a 16gb card in my A700 for the last 6-7 weeks and so far no problems. I have about 800 cRAW images on it and along the way I have probably deleted 50-60. I have downloaded the newest photos many times to my pc but I decided not to delete them from the card. I want to keep using it ...
