Re: Minolta camera collection

Mine are: Cameras SRT 101b bought from R G Lewis in 1976 - I still treasure it and it has its original strap XGM - given to a friend XD7 - re-covered in maroon leather (the original vinyl was notorious for dropping off these cameras) - still have it Dynax 7 - just bought my second - fantastic camera...

Re: Sony's 100mm macro??

Thanks, Pako, but of course I know that Minolta lenses work on Sony Alpha cameras. The point of my question is "Do Minolta macro lenses have coatings which work properly with KM / Sony DSLRs given the risk of sensor reflections at short focus distances?" I would hope that KM lenses are fin...

Re: Sony's 100mm macro??

I am contemplating buying this lens too. However, I have also considered the recent KM (D) or the Minolta RS version but read somewhere that the coating on these lenses does not work well to eliminate reflected sensor images when they are used with digital cameras. Is it best to go with modern macro...

Re: BRAND NEW A700 - ISSUES! EXAMPLES NOW UP!

Thanks for the responses. That was the conclusion I had come to and I am now waiting for a replacement to arrive - hopefully one that works properly. Interestingly, the faulty body had firmware 1 in it and appeared to have a properly working eye-start which suggests it came from one of the first bat...

Re: BRAND NEW A700 - ISSUES! EXAMPLES NOW UP!

Just done a focus test on my new A700 and, to my dismay, not only is the focus out (only slightly but nevertheless enough) but also the sensor is misaligned. The image(s) looked slightly tilted on the viewing screen which I confirmed by checking with the grid on Photoshop. I used a Minolta 85/1.4 G ...

Re: 7 or 9, which would you pick ?

I have owned a Dynax 7 for some years (and previously a Minolta SRT101b, XGM and XD7 - I still own the first and last of these three in wonderful condition, albeit the latter has been re-leathered) and loved it. Some weeks ago I had the opportunity to buy another, mint in box with only 25 rolls thro...

Re: Sony 16-80mm - how much slop, twitch, clunk?

PS. Until a day or so ago I was all for buying the 16-80 CZ having a lot of respect for Zeiss and having owned a number of their fine lenses for the Contax G2. But after reading all the comments about sample variability I thought "What's the point? Life is simply to short to mess around in this...

Re: Sony 16-80mm - how much slop, twitch, clunk?

I suspect that the manufacturing process is such that the "clunking et al" is par for the course on this one and that the Zeiss element is down to the glass and design and not much more than more than that. It seems to me that there is a fairly large degree of manufacturer complacency here...

Re: Image quality 16-80CZ vs 18-250

Thank you, Dr Harout, for your kind words and useful comment. And, to forestall any riposte to my comment about relative focusing speed between the Sony and Tamron variants, I have just read the extensive dialogue on both this forum and that of dpreview so I withdraw it!

Image quality 16-80CZ vs 18-250

I am about to buy a A700 to add to my KM7D and KM Dynax 7s. As there are a few deals around right now I am tempted to include the CZ16-80 (if I can find a good one after reading David's warnings!). An alternative would be the similar size Sony 18-250 (faster than the Tamron equivalent) for the occas...
