Re: In honour of Barry's new Camera

Anyone taking bets on the next body using a different battery?
Lets hope not, the standardisation so far is good.

At this rate it will be "Mike's new camera and lens" as I fancy pairing the A700 with a 70-400SSM and a few spare batteries.

Re: Sony 18-250 filters

I managed to pick up a CZ filter from the Photostore-UK Ebay shop at a good price.
They also have LCD screen covers, batteries etc for KM and Sony so worth a look.

Holy steady-shot, I didn't realise they did one.
I'll do a spot of surfing.

What does Shirley use (or maybe never)?

Thanks,

Sony 18-250 filters

Anyone aware of filter caused vignetting on the 18-250 lens? I'm looking to purchase along with a polariser so wanted to know if I need to consider the thin mount filters. Also any recommendations on a reasonable quality polariser for it. In my film days I just had a cheapo version on my wide zoom. ...

Tamron 70-300

Gents I usually use it to shoot aircraft and occasionally wildlife. It is a reasonable lens (excellent value) with good overall performance as several others have mentioned here. The biggest drawback for me is relatively slowish focusing compared to the Minolta 100-300. It is fine for static or slow...

Re: A 70-400mm sample for you

Both main competitors equivalents are a smidge under £1k at Warehouse Express so I'd expect similar for the Sony. Admittedly it's a fair jump from the 70-300G in cost, weight and size but I find that when shooting aircraft, I work better with "substantial" lens rather than a compact one. T...

Re: A 70-400mm sample for you

[quote="David Kilpatrick Also, I won't have access to the 70-400mm for another six months - when they release the final version.

David[/quote]

I take it you are suggesting a spring release?
Any idea of cost? Similar to the C 100-400 or N 80-400?

Re: Wedding as a guest

At the weddings I've guested at I used a Tamron 28-200 (film) and a Sigma 18-125 (digital). Not much good for indoors (without a powerful flash) but fine outside giving the chance to do wide groups and also zoom in for candids etc. The last thing you want to be doing is juggling lenses, pick one and...

Re: Which 18-250 Zoom?

David,

Did you find any significant difference with the focusing between the Tamron and Sony 18-250?
It seems optically there is little discernable difference.

Re: buying into flash

Just to update you guys I have been looking for a new flash since last September and I have at last managed to get hold of a Sigma EF530 DG Super flash for the Sony system. They appear to be as rare as hens teeth however Sigma UK have been very helpfull and hopefully either later today or tomorrow I...

Sony 18-250

I understand that the Sony version of the Tamron 18-250 has different focus gearing making the focus faster.
Anyone confirm this?

Re: 500mm F8 Reflex (SAL500F80)

I borrowed a mates Minolta version and found the same vignetting. Yes it is small and light but I'm not that impressed. I have my own Sigma 170-500 (pre DG) which is actually quite good but the focus is very slow. I usually use it hand held (aviation) but have used it on a monopod when on the Farne ...
