Re: Trees of the American Southwest

Winston, both of those are very nice! Everyone should click on the thumbnail to see the larger versions. They make me feel nostalgic for Africa. I have been to East Africa a couple of times. I am sure I have slides packed away with some photos of trees in Africa, but the only thing I have online is ...

Re: Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S G review

OMG 40K shots on a one year old camera, how does one find time to sort through that many shots with a critical eye, and the storage space requirements with a usage rate that high, not to mention re-finding a particular shot etc. I have a KM5D and an A100 and the combined total of shots wouldn't be ...

Re: Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S G review

ranted, even w/ my film SLRs I could take better pics faster, and now w/ the auto-machine - and no film costs - I can fire away like a machine gun. Some how, however, it doesn't seem as creative. That may be the reason it doesn't seem as creative. I never fire away like a machine gun. I have said b...

Re: Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S G review

Yep point taken Henry, but the way I worked it was generally as Dusty pointed out, if it's closeups when in A-mode, just set f/11 or f/16 on the lens depending on available light etc, it only takes a second and you can see the f/stop that you've set in the little window (on an X700 for example), if...

Re: Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S G review

btw. I wouldn't complain if the f/stop ring was put back on the lens either....where it belongs. I got into SLR photography in the early 1970s, all manual (focus, exposure -- stop down ttl metering) so I was accustomed to having the aperture ring on the lens too, but since 1988 I have been using AF...

I like it! Churchill looks to be brooding and I like the bus with the woman looking back at him.

Re: Dancing Monkey

The monkeys and heron are great! Gave me a smile. :) Does this mean a thread to post animal photos has been opened? :) Or is it only for animal animations?

Re: Trees of the American Southwest

I took this photo at Yosemite National Park, California in 1999 (Minolta Alpha 9xi, scanned film). I wonder if it is a bristlecone pine? http://www.bakubo.com/galleries/Nature/slides/yosemite-gnarly-tree.jpg Here's a tree at Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona in 2007 (Sony A100, Minolta 28-135mm f4...

Re: Arizona

Angkor Wat is helium balloon - expensive and rare! Must be the air temperature there prevents hot air ballooning at the right times of day. Yes, it is clearly not a hot air balloon, but until you mentioned it I hadn't thought about it. I don't know why they are not using a hot air balloon. It is ho...

Re: Arizona

Although I have never ridden in a hot air balloon, I have a couple of photos. The first one is early in the morning over Angkor Wat in Cambodia and the second one is early in the morning over San Miguel de Allende, Mexico (the church below is La Parroquia de San Miguel Archangel): http://www.bakubo....

Re: Challenge 3: Through The Eye of A Needle

Yes, the children and people in general usually seem quite happy. With movies, television, internet, and other communications media more and more people in the less developed world these days are acutely aware of the differences in their lifestyle compared to the lifestyle of most people in the more...

Re: Trees of the American Southwest

I have been to Caddo Lake twice and these photos were the first time in 1999. Actually, I probably have about 30+ photos from that spot and 9 are on my website. I just more or less randomly selected these 2 to show here. The conditions that December morning were just perfect with no breeze at all so...

Re: Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S G review

That's why I said the only solution is to have a fast lens with minimal focus shift - so it does not matter what method you use, and what your final apertur is, focusing at ANY effective aperture will still be correct. Hmm, okay maybe I am just misunderstanding this sentence then: "The only so...

stevecim, I like that first shot the best! Tony, same to you. I like your first shot best! Here are some more trees, but these are from the American Southeast. The first two are Caddo Lake, Texas on the border with Louisiana: http://www.bakubo.com/galleries/Nature/slides/caddo-lake-22-pr.jpg http://...

Re: Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S G review

Interesting article. I especially like the explanation about the focus shift when stopping down and what AF cameras do. I have a question though about this sentence: "The only solution that works is a fast lens that has minimal focus shift, so it will work with cameras using standard AF sensors...
